Driving 150 miles on Toyo R-888 to track? Ok idea?

Just out of curiosity, would this be OK as long as it doesn't rain?

I'm heading out to the track for one more time this year and I don't want to wear the rest of my daily driving tires out. I've decided to buy some track rubber, but since I'm only going out one more time this year, I don't want to spend 3K on a set of wheels that will only be used once. I figured I'd just have the dealer swap the tires out the day before I go and drive them there.

Do track tires wear any differently? Would putting 300 highway miles be a waste of tire? Would it even be noticeable?

Yep, they are fine for normal streets. Suck for rain, of course. Hmmm.. Maybe they dont suck enough with rain! LOL!
My garage is about 20 miles from the track and often I will use them on a drive or two up the steep mountain canyons before swapping back. The tires wear out from the track on the cornering edges first. So normal driving will never hurt them and you'll wear out the edges much faster than the whole tire when driving only on tracks. Normal driving doesn't abuse the cornering edges.

Bodhii is right on with his comments. Just be really careful if you get rain.

    Hi
I have done about 1k on mine including 4 track days..one to Spa Francorchamps and they are still legal.
Grip is fine in the damp and wet on track as long as no free standing water to clear. Even on very wet motorway driving ok as long as you are sensible.
It is important to get track pressures right however.

Yes, easy to use on the street - in fact on a 911 I owned I used them 100% full time with no problems.

    "I officially don't recommend this"
