    Porsche's Answer to the R8

If you can't beat them, buy them:

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-p...4-on-hold.html

Wouldn't be surprised to see the R8 'discontinued' due to unforseen circumstances, if Porsche gets control of Audi.

I doubt the acquisition. VW costs EUR 300 a share at the moment given the short squeeze...
No more R8...Jing jing sold after a year with only 7000km. A people mover as replacement.

I doubt Porsche would do that. Especially if the R8 is profitable. After all, Porsche is the most profitable automaker out there. If they are willing to build SUV's and 4 Doors, i think the only thing that matters to them is bottom line.

Awh.. ****, they dropped the R4?!! Would have been a nice car...

Porsche just might kill the R8 if they take over. Like the above poster said, bottom line counts---THEIR bottom line and they'll protect it at all costs I would suppose; including killing off any threat, in or out, that would threaten their beloved Porsches... Just a thought.

Re: Porsche's Answer to the R8

I have mixed views on this.

Personally, I don't like Porsche and would never buy one.

This situation with Porsche/VW group has been on the cards for a while. Porsche make much more profit, per car, on a 911 than Audi do on an R8.

But, R8 production volume, compared to 911, is small. So, the R8 will have an effect, albeit small, on Porsche sales. It is a threat, but not a great one.

It very much depends how much pragmatism there is at Porsche. Customers like me would never buy a Porsche, so if they kill R8, they loose my money to a competitor.

I think (hope) the general plan is just to sell whichever of your products the customer wants. There is so much cross over and competition between the daughter companies - VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda in the small/medium car market, but that doesn't bother them.

Bottom line: Better the customer spends the money within our group, than go to a competitor.

R8 England - I agree with your view. I also think the R8 will be around for at least another 5 to 6 years to complete its initial product life cycle in order to recoupe the up front cost. If Porsche is going to kill it, that will be the time it will probably happen.
