    Transmission Noise A 'Natural Characteristic'

Have any other members noticed a noise from the transmission when pulling away at low revs? My 4 month old manual R8 has had a gearbox rumble from new that has progressively got worse over time. I've driven 4 or 5 other R8's that do not seem to exhibit the same problem, but having complained to my supplying Audi dealer, it has been deemed a 'natural characteristic' of the vehicle and they are not prepared to fix the car despite the fact that their R8 trained technician recommended replacement. Sorry that my first post on the board is complaining about the vehicle, I'm just curious if any other owners have experienced the same noise or been panhandled by their Auid dealer with this 'natural characteristic' for what clearly is a fault that existed when the car was supplied. According to my local Audi dealer, we are all apparently happy driving noisy transmission cars.

Any solid opinions greatfully received, I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth with my Audi experience after the initial euphoria of owning a car that I had aspired to.

    *******
I do not undertsand why the dealer would override the technician's recommendation...If I were in your position, based upon these facts as stated, I would call Audi directly and ask for a regional Audi engineer/rep ( job titles vary with mfr) to get involved.
Good Luck and keep us in loop..

Apparently Audi refused the warranty fix as determined by the R8 technician, the dealer is unwilling to do anything (perhaps something to do with the cost of a replacement gearbox not being borne by Audi) and has now adopted the line that there is nothing wrong with the car despite their recommendation to replace the gearbox previously.

Audi customer service have been informed of what has transpired and it will be interesting to see if they adopt the same line.

Certainly, the other 4 R8's that I have driven (including 2 at a day organised by Audi @ Rockingham) did not exhibit this 'normal' characteristic.

I have a 'slight' noise with my transmission box too.

The dealer agreed right away to install a new one under warranty. Its on order from lamborghini and should be with the dealer next week to install.

My R8 has 4000k on the clock now and has always had a quiet and soft whine in the lower gears.
Never had any concerns and strangely for me adds a nice characteristic to the car.
Certainly do not have any noise that could be defined as a rumble.
