Do you have a jack in your R8?

I usually use my garage floor jack on my cars and never look for the OEM jack. The R8 has a very strange jack point however, plus my garage jack barely fits under the frame. When I went to pull the OEM jack out of the trunk there wasn't one there (although there is a space for one in the tool kit). I contacted my dealer and he researched it and said the car doesn't come with a jack and he's not sure he can get the special jack for this car. The owner's manual shows how to the use the jack and gives tips.

I find it preposterous that the car doesn't come with a jack, especially since it needs a special one.

Did any of you get one in your car? If so does it have a part number on it?

    Thanks,

    JR

Nope, didn't get one. My '09 came with a pump and a can of slime. No reason to jack up the car if you don't have a new tire to put on.

The dealer said they originally planned on run-flats, but the performance was so poor that they went with the pump and the can of slime instead.

I was reading this too and thought that the car came with one. It said you can't use jack stands at these jack points, but doesn't tell you where you can use them. This naturally led to the assumption that the jack was under the bonnet with the rest of the tools.

However, I don't think the jack is special. I have seen, and might just have one.

At Infineon, the mechanics were lifting the car with the Griot's low profile jack.

Even though this is expressly prohibited by the manual, they were lifting the rear by jacking under the transmision. It appeared that they placed the jack at the front-center of the rear under-body diffuser.

I didn't notice the location they were using to jack the front of the car.

Boy I sure wouldn't do that to my car.

I use a low-profile racing jack, and use the locations specifed in the service manual. In the rear, those are on the shiny metal about 2 feet in front of the rear wheels - there's a raised circle that shows exactly where it is. On the front, it's the rough triangle-shaped surface that borders on the wheel well.

The suspension and frame is so stiff that you can jack up the car using only one of the rear jacking points and it will also raise the front wheel.

Also, the service manual says to always use a rubber pad or wood block on the jack. I use a hockey puck on my racing jack lifting pad, it works great.

Try a big red 1.5 ton low profile car jack. Bought it at JCWhitney.com $144 shipping included. It works perfectly if you put one hockey puck on the saddle or the toe of the jack when lifting. The 4 lifting points under the car are easy to find. The two points in front of the back tires have a rasied circle on the undercarrige that is about 5 inches in diametre. You can raise the front by using the diagonal beam just behing the front tire. It is a little hard to explain, see picture in this and the next post.

Here's a 3-1/3" Craftsman Jack that looks good, at a lower price too.

Re: Do you have a jack in your R8?

I too discovered the missing jack when trying to swap wheels for the track. I complained to my dealer and they confirmed that the R8 does not ship with a jack. However they ended up ordering one for me free of charge. I use it at the location noted in the user manual. Right at the edge of the car under the door close to the middle of the car. It jacks up both the front and rear wheels on each side. It has a special molded piece on the end that fits into the jack location. It's basically like a round dowel.

I agree with you completely ...especially considering the owner's manual indicates a jack included in the tool kit.
The fact that the dealers do not know this also is absurd. Many r8 owners will not learn of this until they are in need..
    This is simply wrong!
