Slow punctures - have you been affected?

I was looking something up earlier and noticed there were quite a few threads across the net about people with r8's having slow punctures.

The rear passenger tyre on mine loses around 1 psi a week and has done so since I got the car (no biggie to live with as I check pressures at lease once a week) so it got me wondering just how many people have had this problem.

Mine drops a few PSI all round.....
Just get into the habit of checking each time you fill up and it's no problem.

my front passenger tyre loses about the same, the rest are fine. I took it back to the dealer a few months after I bought it and they suggested I take it to the tyre fitter next door. I wasn't happy and didnt want my alloys scuffing so figured I'd just pump it up once a month.

It is an irritation tho' knowing that one of your tyres is slowly deflating all the time.

    Tyres are p Zeros btw.

That isn't the best advice. Tyre pressures should be checked when they are "cold", ie early morning, before you drive the car, and before the sun has chance to heat up the tyres.

To all those suffering with slow punctures, it might be worth editing your posts to indicate which tyres you have.

And have any of you checked for leaks around the valve core and valve stem with some "leak detection fluid" (gas fitters use this, as do tyre fitters - but a mild solution of washing up liquid also does the trick)?

Remove the valve cap, and smear a thin film of saliva over the end of the exposed valve stem. And try and get some similar "fluid" around the joint where the base of the valve meets the wheel. And then watch for bubbles. I recently had a brand new valve core fail in a metal stemmed valve, so that could be a possibility.

I usually fill up at my local station which is about 500metres away, so I would say my tyres are cold.... When I fill up on a trip, where I've been driving for 5 mins or more, I don't bother checking them.

They always drop from 39 to around 34/35psi, and never any further (so far).

Ahhh, OK. Thanks for clarifying that. And sorry if I stired up a bit of a hornets nest with my last post.

That's slightly wierd! So how long between checking pressures do they drop to that? And what about if you leave it longer between checking?

I had same problem, car went to Aberdeen Audi, and they fixed a leaking valve which was cause. Matthew who works there is always very helpful for anyone in area. He also organised a wheel refurb which came out perfectly.
