Will my new R8 fit in my garage?

My new R8 is due to arrive in the November and I want to check it'll fit in my garage, in particular through the less than generous garage door that the developer has fitted.

I have the dimensions of the car from the brochure etc and width-wise.... let's just say it's going to be tight getting it through my garage door. I have the folding mirrors specified and wondered if anyone could tell me whether, when folded, they protrude beyond the body of the car (which the brochure tells me is 1904mm wide)?

A supplementary question (given the garage itself is narrow) is how wide does the driver door have to be able to open for a slim guy like me to be able to actually get out of the car (recognising I may have to open the window to buy a little more flexibility!)? The garage is only just over 2.5m wide so I fear it's going to be cosy even if I put carpet or something on the wall so I can open the door as wide as possible

    Thanks.

The doors are pretty long so you have to open them more than you might realise to get out comfortably but in tight spaces (eg carparks) a bit of contortion should see you right. When folded, the mirrors look to be inside of the car body width.

Not sure on the side mirrors as I never fold them but the doors are tricky. They open in stages and in order to get out comfortably and not hold the door it swings very wide with some force. The first stage leaves little room to get out. As a result when I have little room I find myself holding the door with one hand while getting out. No worries though, unless you are old and overweight you will soon develop your own technique, not only protect your doors, but also to look the part when you enter and exit your R8.

I have a piece foam on the wall as I often hit my c2s door, but I am not sure I will be able to get out when the r8 get here cos we have q7 in the garage too. the doors on coupe are all much longer/wider

Re: Will my new R8 fit in my garage?

Just went out and measured the mirrors in open and folded to see what the actual difference was and I get a difference of 10cm each side when folded.

according to the r8 brochure, the car body is 2029mm mirror to mirror and 1904mm for just the body width so if my math is correct that means they each extend 6.25cm beyond the body when open. Given they fold in by 10cm you should be golden if the body fits your garage opening.

Of course, the downside is that with the mirrors folded you DO NOT HAVE any "feelers"; without that safety net the first inkling of real trouble will be expensive body rub

best to drive/reverse in as far in as possible with the mirrors open then fold them at the last minute - have to do with the a5 and a stupidly narrow door on the second garage.

Jeez that's tight. Sorry to say but I think you will struggle to get in and out even if you are rubberman.

Re: Will my new R8 fit in my garage?

Thanks for the measurements randombloke! Looks like I might just be ok (albeit will have to be a bit of a rubberman ). Plan is to reverse in, fold the mirrors at the last minute as you suggest, and then move the car as far as possible to the one side so I can actually get out of it. Will also make use of the carpet offcuts I've been storing in the garage to line the walls, at least on the drivers side. One way or another it's going in!

Right, back to throwing out junk, laying my epoxy flooring and fitting my security cameras
