How much do you pay for insurance?

    Hi,

Im new to this forum. Ive been lurking as a guest for about a month now and decided to finally sign up.

I own a 1991 Camaro RS with LS1/T56 swap in Canada but am currently living with my dad in Poland. Some pictures of my car are here www.rlyslow.com

My dad is looking into an R8 at the moment. The car would be Daytona Grey with Oxygen sideblades and charcoal leather interior and dash, Bang & Olufsen sound system, magnetic ride, 19 inch wheels, navigation and some other things.

The insurance for the car in Poland is supposed to be 4.9% of the value of the car = 24 010 Polish Zloty = 7 800 US Dollars = 6 250 Euro

This would be with a satellite monitoring system installed in the car.

What are you guys paying? Do you have satellite monitoring?

    me 4000$ per 1/4 year

edit: have gps, + "shield" anti-theft technology with full car price repayment guarantee, if anyone can steal it
gps monitoring is not worth a straw!!! car thefters can block it with an interfering-tool.

I'd be interested to know what some of the US R8 owners are paying out there now. Especially those who are perhaps in their 2nd year of insurance with the car (I know, there would be rather few yet). The US quotes I heard thrown out 10 to 12 mo. ago were, to me anyway, surprisingly moderate. If you care to share that info., be sure to mention what kind of a deductible you're accepting on your collision and comprehensive damage coverage, as I know that make an especially big difference on "high value" cars. How many of you have "wheel and tire" coverage?

I was actually surprised, I am paying about $2600/yr, with 2 speeding tickets(from previous cars, only 10mph over). But I also have an '07 F-150 on there, if I take off the truck im sure it would go down too.

I repalced this car for my mini cooper and my insturance actually went DOWN. I was shocked. But I didnt have lojack on my mini? Does my insurance compan even know anything about this car?

Oh, and its listed as a pleasure ride, not a commuter. Im maybe only going to be driving it 5000 miles a year, that makes a difference in certain states, others it doesnt.

to those guys in the uk - please would you share which insurer you are getting those good rates from.

I pay about £900 a year with Admiral but the cover is not 100% and hence I will be changing in January when I need to renew.

Mine is BELL Insurance - found via Go-compare .com.
£580 premium , 12Kmiles including business and full European cover.
I went with max excess £750 because I wouldn't even bother claiming for less than that - they'd be sure to get it back in increased premium anyway.

BELL is actually a subsidiary of ADMIRAL but don't let that put you off because they all have completely different specialist areas and priorities - ADMIRAL actually said that they wouldn't offer cover because the car is too expensive !!

I've found the trick is to keep logging on to the comparison websites a couple of weeks before renewal because they change daily and often quite dramatically. They have targets to meet and will offer really good deals at certain times.
