Question about gauges

We are getting prepared to buy a 2008 R8 and I have seen some different pictures of gauges.

The spot where the date and time are as well as the odometer on the one we are buying are red but Ive seen some people with white ones. What is the difference?

MY 2009 uses white.

Can we change the red to white by maybe swapping the lense filter.

I think they are LEDs? Probably not.

I think that the technology is fundamentally different ... red looks like led's and the white looks like back-lit liquid crystal

I believe the white DIS on the 2009 has a higher resolution as well. The edges of the digits appear smoother than the red ones on my 2008 TT.
