What Other Car Besides the R8?

Just curious as to what other cars did you considered before deciding on your R8? Any regrets?

I was on the fence between it and the used F360 spider or 997 Turbo Cab.
I decided on the R8 after driving it at the World Driving Experience. There were six other exotic cars there and the R8 easily stood out as being the most stable and best handling car of the bunch.
I decided against the F360 spider due to the simple fact that it was out of factory warranty.
And against the 997 because I have had many Porsches previously and was getting tired of aging rear-engine platform.
IMO the R8 has the best of both world. The classy/sexiness of the Fcars and reliability and driveability fo the P-cars. And most imressive of all the is its impeccable handlings and stability at any speeds. Gotta love the AWD mid-engine platform.

I was following the up and down of Vantage for the past 2 years, as beautiful as that car is, it best as a poster on the wall. I was very excited about the engine and some minor detail change for 09, but I doubt I can handle the issues that come with the car. As I mentioned before, they have a hard time selling the cars.

I was considering a GT3 RS or a M6, but as soon as I saw an R8 on the road, the choice was obvious.

Scuderia - lightning fast shifts. No BS type sportscar. Costs quite a bit more than the R8, so I had to "settle" in this economy. The R8 is a very good deal for its performance and all around driveability.

The Scuderia I'll take over the R8 anyday, but it cost of it here is enough to buy 2 R8's and have money left over for an MTM supercharger conversion.

Re: What Other Car Besides the R8?

I already have my second choice. And to me its easily the best Porsche platform made. My second car is a custom TPC 485 HP Turbo Porsche Cayman S. I look at this car, not from a purchase price, but completely from a high performance engineering perspective. The basic mid-engine Porsche Cayman platform is easily superior to the rear-engine Porsche 911 platform. My car is set up more for the track, with roll bar, and many GT3 and other quality racing components. But it is street legal with most of its original luxury interior remaining intact. And it will beat any Nissan GT-R that I have found on track,... and for about the same price.

If price was completely irrelevant, I would also favor the PPI Audi R8 GTR, or the Ferrari Scuderia, or maybe the Enzo.

As you can guess, I'm a serious mid-engine kinda of guy. And I must say that I'm really looking forward to the new evolution of the Noble sports car,.. the Q1 Rossion, that is just now being released. It is said to have a much more luxurious interior, and is now a more realistic daily driver. Everywhere else in the World, you buy this car completely ready to drive, but here in the USA, you must buy the completely race-ready engine, separate from the completely finished car body, and then have them completed a week after purchasing, in order to satisfy some strange US government requirement.

The performance is of the Rossion Q1 is truly mind-boggling. With 0-60 mph times in 3.3 seconds, standing mile in 11.4 seconds at 120 mph with the ability to circulate the skid pad at over 1.1 G on its standard equipment tires, the new Q1 offers vicious performance and easily puts the supercar in the ranks of the quickest road cars available, at any price.
But my favorite all time platform is indeed the Audi R8. It maybe needs a little less weight, and a substantial power increase, to give it the super elite 5 LBS/ one HP elite performance ratio, but once that is achieved, the R8 will be second to none. (The Scuderia is 5.4 LBS/HP, my custom Porsche Cayman is 6.1, the '09 Rossion is 5.1, '08 Porsche 997 GT3 is 7.22)

I was ready to buy the Turbo before the R8 came out. Once the R8 was introduced, I was gone.

The Scuderia is definitely the car to get. But like others have said the crazy price over MSRP is not something I would realistically consider. I rather have my R8 and CS instead.
