B&O Question

Neighbor's looking at a 2009 R8 RT, CF, Prem, Nav, but no B&O. My question to you guys, is it a real disappointment without one? My neighbor's looking at one that is out of state, so it doesn't make sense for him to fly out to listen to it. For those of you without the system, would you have had this option added?

I don't have the B&O .... I find the Audi system to be quite adequate.

I spec mine with it, but I listen to AM talk show most of the time. I might listen to CD here and there, but it isn’t money well spent. My rep told me it will help with resale value... ; >, I am sure most of us can do without the fancy B&O name.

Not impressed with B&O in R8.

When I balance front and rear speakers, I don't hear the rear ones. Need to nearly turn to rear full to hear the rear ones.

+ sound quality is NOT impressive.

That's what my thoughts are as well. In my car, I don't turn the music up as I'm more of a driver than a cruiser. I have the B&O and it sounds fine when my favorite song comes up and I turn the volume up, but overall, I don't use it very much to be able to appreciate the quality. I guess it's a coin toss for my buddy on this one. I do think it will help with resale later if that means anything to him.

I'll echo what others have said: the B&O is decent but won't make you go "wow."

I prefer the sound and features (esp. iPod integration) of the Mark Levinson sound system in my other car, a Lexus IS-F, and my previous car, the BMW 650i.

I purchased the B&O for my '09 R8, only based on what a fantastic product it is in my 08 S8... However, 1 year later the R8 B&O is not nearly as good, and isn't even Ipod compatable - (which the S8 B&O ) is.

If I had to decide now, I'd skip it.
I also heard the MMI is a lessor product, and might be marketed differently in Europe.

Other than the above issue and some Bluetooth problems, the car is outstanding. I too moved from 3 decades of Porsches, which now seems like driving a Freightliner compared to my R8.

Believe me B&O system is pretty good when you compare to the systems on other high end sportscar such as Ferrari, Porsche and Lambo.

My buddy is coming from a Lexus LS460, but he's not that keen on hearing. My guess is the standard stereo would be sufficient for him.

It 's a nice option to have because it 's all pre-wired and speakers are in placed for you if aftermarket stereo is ever needed. Without the option you may need to drill holes for speakers and wires etc.,etc.which may cost more to do.
