    Break-in period of R8

I am curious...How have others broken-in their R8's. The temptation to see what it will do, when we did not get a chance to drive it before picking the car up, is VERY high.

I put ~150 miles on mine before putting it in storage for the winter. It is the quickest car I have ever owned.

i didn't get much direction on that either. I've pushed it a couple times, but nothing too crazy just yet. 350 miles on mine, and it seems to get smoother as that number climbs

I was told no revs over 6000 for the first 1000 miles and to vary the speed between 55 and 75. Driving home from Vegas, I broke both rules quickly. I've always driven em like I just stole them and never had trouble. We will see.

6000 rpm in 6th is over 145 mph. Could you not hold back a touch?!

135 mph is the fastest I've had, but that was with 6000 miles on the clock. There was plenty more power if I wanted it, but was not the right road to do more.

What does the R8 owner's manual say exactly about the break in period?

As I recall, it's no full throttle starts and less than 6000 RPM for the first 1000 miles. From 1000 - 1500 miles, you are supposed to start increasing RPMs up to the max. 1500 miles is considered fully broken in. Oil consumption should start stabilizing too.
