    Rattling sound from engine bay

hi all, getting close to 500 miles, brake still squeal...

I started to hear some low rattling sound on low speed over regular street surface, seems like something got a little loose back there but I can’t seems to find what it is. Happen after the first wash, I did not touch anything back there, did wiped the engine bay lightly... Anyone have this problem? Or should I just drive in a straight line at 80 miles per hour at all time?

BTW, is a leaves blower a good idea to blast water out of all those hard to clean area? I got worried because the blower is quite strong, and it might blew something off. Got this idea from How to wash your R8 thread.

    any feedback are welcome, thanks

I had one of the bolts that hold the carbon fiber engine bay covers come loose. The metal twist bolt was just hanging on the cover and rattling. Happily an easy fix.

OK, thx I will check again tomorrow, I checked it twice and can’t see anything that might be causing that noise

There is a service bulletin out that concerns a rattle from behind the drivers seat. What it concerns is two fuel lines in the fuel tank resonating together. There is NO danger, it just causes a rattle. It can be easily fixed at the dealer in a day.

I'm not saying that is what your problem is, but just giving you another possibility to consider.

I would take it to the dealer anyway, Audi is very good a keeping track of anything going on with the R8, so it may be something a tech could figure out from a quick ride with you and simply making a phone call.

FYI: Audi's stance is that some brake squeal is normal. The pads are metallic and made for high perfomance driving. If it is excessive, mention it when you take the car in for service

There is also a service bulletin concerning the brake light assembly. Apparently the fix are some rubber grommets.

If you knew the R8 was going to have squealing brakes and a rattling sound, would you still purchase the vehicle? Meaning, do you regret it?

I do not think I regret the decision, my other considerations were Porsche 4S, Turbo or Vantage. i love the car each time I get in it, looking at it in my garage, or walking toward it. The only thing I regret is the timing.

The R8 is really a junior exotic, in a nice way. Junior only to the F430 and Gallardo but above the Turbo and Vantage as an overal package. Its rarity (approx 900 cars per year in the US) also place it in that position.

What do the F430 and Gallardo do better than the R8, other then More HP??

What does the R8 do better?

I am assuming based on your statement you have owned both.
