    A couple of questions please

    Hi,

A couple of question please whilst i'm stillll looking for a used R8.

    1. If the vehicle doesnt have the cd mulichanger whats in its place. Also is a cable pre run to the multichanger are so I could add one?

    2. Can Cruise control be added to a vehicle without it?

    3. Can the engine light be added if it doesnt have it?

I am finding it so difficult to find a car with the options I want.

    thanks,
    Dave

Re: A couple of questions please

i have the cd changer and have never used it - i use 2 x 2gb sd cards stuffed with mp3's.

no idea on the other 2, although I also have engine lights and have never bothered with them either as they only come on when you leave the car with the coming home lights enabled and I'm not a fan of that.

    Hi random,
Now I should have guessed u would be around your full of knowledge and great answers thanku. Is the satnav in the r8 up to the m3 e46 spec or is it better or worse in yr opinion?
I test drove a v8 vantage last weekend and couldnt believe the sat nav in it. It was like a small old fashioned map book folding out of the dash

I didn't have nav in the m3 and to be honest haven't really used nav for directions in the r8 - I use it mainly to get a feel for the bends in the road ahead to help make speedy progress (a bit like the track map in racing games I guess).

Re: A couple of questions please

Ditto on the SD cards (and Sat Radio in USA) vs the CD changer; I've never used the changer. I believe an Ipod interface is available in its place. I have the Ipod interface in the TT, and it is not a worthwhile addition.

The nav itself performs quite well and I do use it frequently, but the MMI interface is pretty slow and awkward compared to the touchscreen on a Nuvi or a Lexus.

The LED lights are cute but I have to admit they are of questionable real value as they don't add or subtract from the enjoyment of driving the car. Plus, as randombloke points out, there is no effective way to leave them on while the car is parked.

Not sure I've ever used the speed control except once to make sure it works. This includes a several hour drive up I-5 which is about as straight as you can get. The R8 is just too much fun to drive in a dynamic manner, I never consider putting on the speed control! Only my 2p, as we don't have as many automated speed cameras here as you apparently have in the UK.

Re: A couple of questions please

Mcc, you should be careful of one thing. If you go for the sat nav (which I personally use all the time and think is excellent), then you cannot play CD's.

There is one slot in the dash, so you can either use the sat nav with map DVD or play CD's, but not both.

So, if you want to play CD's and use sat nav, you need the CD changer.

I got the changer for this reason. It is bolted into a hole in the bulkhead. I doubt they would have a plug/lead wired in place for it, unless it was fitted. Since cars are built to order, I think the wiring harness varies a little depending on the options.

In actual fact, I have never used the changer, having discovered how to use MP3. So, I simply copied my CD's onto MP3 format and the CD changer was redundant.

There are a number of R8's on the UK market, so you should find something that has the options you want. Apart from Audi's network, try www.autotrader.co.uk
