I could not stand it any longer!

I took the R8 out of storage on Valentine's day. A present to my wife and myself.

I put ~50 miles on it. I forgot how much fun it is to drive this car. WOW! I guess I will drive it as long as there is no snow on the roads. I am going up to a eurowerks rally this afternoon. FUN FUN FUN

Why don't you guys drive it all year round. It's perfect on snow. Just regret it does not have a roof rack. Envy all the Carrera 4s that swoosh by with skies on the roof.

It handles well on swnow. Not perfect, because 30% max on front wheels. But sill ok. Started it last night at -30C!

-30? Where are you? Mine is in storage as well, and its driving me nuts. I don't drive it in winter due to the heightened potential of someone hitting me due to the slippery conditions, the salt, gravel and other crap on the roads, and the generally tough conditions that winter can expose a car to. Not saying its easy though.

Switzerland. Certain parts of the alps can get cold.

One of the reasons I bought the R8 is that it is an Audi. Audi are made for driving through snow, slush, salt, etc. I drove an Audi for 5 years, every day and sold it 5 years later with 150k on the clock. It still was in great condition. And the buyer still is happy.

Unfortunately the R8 does not have a roof rack - so I have to use the Subaru when going skiing..

Because I have a truck for a daily driver and also there's no accounting for the other muppets on wintry roads here in Scotland

Update: The rally was fun. The R8 drives the twisties like it is on rails...even with summer tires. The roads were dry and there was no snow. The temperature was 20 degrees F. I put ~150 miles on the car.

Out of curiosity I checked the MPG on the drive home at 70MPH...22.2 MPG. Can this be correct?

Shelbygirl1: What kind of MPG did you get on the drive from SC to Houston?

OK...confirmed....We got 24.3, which we thought was excellent! Even now, with just my going in and around town, constant stop and go...I have 19.7.

Re: I could not stand it any longer!

We paid $2100 in gas guzzler tax because Audi says the car gets 12 city and 20 highway. I would think they would want to show better mileage not worse. I guess I am pleasantly surprised with this level of fuel efficiency, but that is not why I purchased the Prius...oh I mean R8. )
