    Oil temperature

    Hi

During normal driving, my oil temperature is showing just a bit under 125'c and the fans on the front rads run for 90 seconds after engine shut off, is this normal? I can't remember my last R8 doing this especially as the ambient air temperature is only around 10'c at the moment. The coolant temp looks good at 90'c

    Thanks

As we get used to the car we get a little more aggressive with each outing resulting in a bit more heat,I think.Lately I've noticed the fans on a bit more lately. 6000 miles on her.

It was ~45 degrees F when I took possession of my car. The cooling fans ran even with this temperature and normal driving. On Valentine's day it was only 24 F and they still ran for ~90 seconds.

I get more or less the same behavior (perhaps 45 to 60 seconds)

    Re: Oil temperature

R8 is running beautiful since the new engine was installed..however I have noticed the oil temp runs hotter than before.

It sits in between the middle mark and 3/4 mark on normal driving.Under harder driving it nudges close up to the 3/4 but has not passed this mark...YET??

I am a little concerned that on the track it might head to RED

Would appreciate some feedback from you guys on what your car runs at.

Oil is the same as the last engine and coolant temp is normal as before (just under half)

    Smile Re: Oil temperature

You guys have BRAND NEW engines still. Tolerances are still tight. Hopefully , after she is broken in she should run cooler.

    Re: Oil temperature

The V8 ran between 1/2 and 3/4, but the V10 sits just below the 1/2 way mark. Or at least it did till we hit the track - seen over 3/4 before cooling off lap. Smoking

    Re: Oil temperature

my car (v8 @ only 1900 mi. so far) runs just a hair below the 3/4 tick (no number on it so ? actual temp.); it seems to always run there, even in calm, "with the traffic" urban/suburban driving; it really doesn't seem to go up much even with a moderately hard run including hill climbing....though @ 1900 mi. I'm still taking it a bit easy as far as sustained higher revs (that and the fact that it's ****ed hard to sustain higher revs without getting a ticket ).

the car has a huge reservoir of engine oil (compared to same engine in the B7 RS4 it's about double); from the Bentley info (sketchy!), it appears the oil temp sensor is in the tank, but I can't tell it's before or after the oil cooler circuit; it appears that the oil cooler is an oil:water heat exchanger (rather than an air: oil radiator, in which case the cooling fan you hear running after shutdown would only be for the (water) radiator (unless there's an a.c. radiator also....no intercooler, of course); I also note the cooling fan keeps running for a bit even in fairly cold ambient temps; I suspect an auxiliary water pump might keep running too, to prevent "hot spots" in the aluminum engine after a really hot shutdown; (of course, you DO always run at idle for at least half a min. or so after a hot run, don't you? )

    Re: Oil temperature

Thanks Guys for your feedback..my temp appears similar to your R8's as well which makes me feel better.

After hard running I always allow a cool down time before turning off the engine.
