    Thank You R8England!

I took your advice and called the R8 Team in the UK today and spoke to Kirsty, now I am 100% clearer on the situation re Delivery of the V8 and V10. She was extremely helpful.

Situation is I can get a V8 for January or a V10 for March.

By chance I met an owner of a Black R8 last night and after talking to him and getting a guided tour I WANT ONE!

The April editions of CAR, EVO and Top Gear all have good articles on the V10 and of course they all rate the car highly but all are a little disappointed with the sound of the engine and they also say the V10 makes the V8 look good value.

The V8 I met last night sounded fabulous (standard exhaust) as it roared off into the night.

Sorry Porsche, looks like Audi are going to win this one!

Now which do I get: V8 or V10?

    Malc

if you want to add the options that come as standard on the v10 to the v8 then the difference is only about £12k new. not much of a difference for a hike in power and rarity.

I think the only v8 bargains in light of the v10 are if you're buying used.

    I would go V10 too..

Whatever the real extra works out to be you will always get back most of it because a V10 will always command a premium over the equivalent equipped and mileage V8..

    Re: Thank You R8England!

you can download the latest uk r8 price/spec brochure from here:

    http://www.audi.co.uk/etc/medialib/c....0036.File.pdf

that includes the v10 and you can see the options that are standard on the v10 but cost options on the v8.

the base price difference between v8 and v10 is:

    v8 manual otr: £77,045
    v10 manual otr: £99,575

so £22,535 difference, but the v10 standard options that are cost options for the v8 are:

    mag ride: £1,320
    b & o: £1,175
    cd changer: £315
    sat nav: £1,760
    light/rain/rear dim: £465
    electric seats: £810
    heated seats: £270
    light package: £420
    stainless pedals: £245
    hill hold: £80
    led headlights: £2,740
    tyre pressure monitoring: £265
    metallic paint: £685

    total: £10,550

leaving a real world otr difference of: £11,985 ( approx $17k).

Sorry little OT, but should B&O, Navigation, Cd changer etc come STANDARD on all V10 models in Europe? I think only difference between V8 and V10 is the engine, if I want folding mirrors etc I have to pay for it Can import dealer in every country really decide what options are really standard and what aren't? Every single article I have read about V10 those options are listed as standard.

Thanks again !! It would be interesting to know the price of a STRIPPED down model. As we already know AUDI HAS OMMITED SOME PRETTY IMPORTANT STUFF ANYWAYS. The R 8 in a stripped down version is all I need . If you get the looks and the performance at a GOOD price..Good enough for a racer. Can I get a stripped down, lightweight version, directly from factory??

    Hi Malc,

V8 or V10 is up to you.

I agree with Random's assemment. The real world price difference is £12K or about £120 per BHP. On this basis, I think the V10 is "cheap".

(I suspect it would have been priced higher in UK, were it not for the economic crisis)

Low mileage used V8's at £59k - £65K are good value in today's world.

Me ?? I had my V8 for over a year and was in love with it and was satisfied with all aspects, save one. The Le Mans prototype was 620 bhp (as far as I remember), and I found the outright straight line performance of V8 a little on the low side compared to other cars in the market sector (but not on the track where it is king).

So, for me personally, the V10 resolves the only issue I had with V8.

There are a number of reviews and some I have read praised the engine sound, so it a personal view of the reviewer as to better or worse......

    If you are still undecided

    1. Test drive a V8 now, then
    2. Put down a deposit for V10 immediately (your car would be March 2010 as you note, so no firm commitment), then
    3. Wait until the first V10's are delivered in UK in June and test drive one.

If you are happy with V10, just sit back and wait. If you see no advantage, get your dealer to switch the deposit to V8.

This above will ensure you have a place in the queue for either car..................
