Regarding tuning of seats, help guys...

    Hey guys~
I am very close to purchasing an R8 in Korea.
I found a new R8 I like but it has alcantara seats instead of leather.
Since I prefer leather, I was going to put a new order in. However,
my dealer said he would cover the cost of changing the alcantara seat to leather for me at an experienced local tuning shop, which he knows of. Since it is just the middle part that needs to be replaced, he said it would be exactly the same as factory made leather seat. However, since I have no experience in interior tuning, I am a little skeptical of the quality of the seat that will come out. Also, I am worried if i would negatively affect the resale value of the car.
Please tell me what you guys think. I would really appreciate your comments.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your comment swansailor! Yeah I know alcantara is for better performance and good at preventing the driver from sliding etc. but I think all leather looks a little better... plus I have heard that as time passes, the quality of alcantara will start to change. Since I am not a neat person, I am leaning towards leather more at this point...

I dont imagine it would measurably hurt the value as the change should be able to look seamless like the dealer states. My question is, if this is the case and you take the car, what are they going to do for you? Are you getting it for less than MSRP? Or, are you simply able to get it right now as opposed to waiting on "the list"?

well, when that car was imported, there was less tax applied due to economic crisis... but now the tax rate went back up. So I will actually have to pay a bit more if I put a new order in (around $3000) and I will have to wait 4-6 months; I dont mind waiting though. Also, the dealer says audi is planning to change the prices of options; he says additional costs could occur by the time I receive the car. But yeah, he is not offering any discount.

If its roughly the same price and you're willing to wait... I say wait and order the car precisley as you want it. The seat change will always be in the back of your mind. Spec it out like you want and wait the 4-6

Ask the dealer to order some Alcantara seats. He should be able to get rid of the leather ones, as long as we're talking basic black. Put 'em on eBay..
