    Re: The looks and stares....

Mid night dropped prospective business partner near Sloane Square after dinner. I rarely take car out in London. On way back the attention from nubile young ladies was unbelievable. I had girls in cars asking me to pull over - 2 hailing a cab broke into the broadest grins and came over to talk.

I realised what one version of the car is all about. I made my getaway before yielding to temptation. This car can get you into trouble even if you are Quasimodo I suspect.

Looks and stares with disastrous consequences...

I was just returning from an event, driving in bumper to bumper traffic, in the leftmost lane. I noticed an American car a few car lengths ahead, in the next lane, and as I'm watching, the driver sticks out a hand from the partially opened window, and aims a cellphone at my car. He couldn't have aimed it properly, since he was ahead of me. I pass them slowly, then they catch up and pass me, and next thing I know, I hear a crunch! As I'm driving by, I realize that same fellow hit the car in front of him. As flattered as I was at the attention, I really do feel sorry for that fellow.

Like most folks on this site, I have had a lot of great and quite striking vehicles that have attracted a lot of attention. In the short time I have had the Spyder, I have had dozens of people rubber neck and give a thumbs up. I recently went on a little acceleration test run, and all I saw as I went sailing by from one of vehicles being passed was an arm hanging out the window with a big thumbs up ......

Not sure if I'll ever get tired of the attention, but I know I won't get tired of the car!

    Re: The looks and stares....

My wife and I drove from the Cincinnati area to Buffalo, NY, to visit friends. Easy 7ish hour drive. On the way home, I could see a guy in an old GM something coming up from behind, not quite staying in his lane. As he got closer, I could see he was an older driver, perhaps late 60s or early 70s, and he was really having a hard time maintaining his lane. As he began to pass me (80s in a 60 MPH zone), he was clearly staring at my car and veered over into my lane by a good three feet. Thankfully, I saw it coming and was able to slow down and move to the right to prevent an accident. I resisted the immediate urge to call for the police to see if the driver was impaired and watched, over the next 10 minutes, as he pulled away from me, still having problems maintaining his lane.

I doubt he was impaired -- just old.

Have to be real careful out there. Morons all over the roads.

I love this thread! I'm in the process of parting out and selling my supercharged M3 as we speak. Next year is my magic year to become a fellow r8 owner - the wifey won't let me have both :P

Its been over 5 years since this car was released and I still stop and stare every time I see one!!

I live in South Beach, Florida, where all you see are sick cars everywhere. I can tell you, this car gets MAD attention, even here, amongst all the Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lambo's and Bentley's. I have a white Spyder, with no external modifications. This car doesn't even need them. Even the stock rims look fantastic!

I'm surprised at all the looks, stares and people coming over to ask about the car. My previous car, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage barely got a glance, just the occasional nod of approval.

Granted the Aston Martin is more common over here, but the R8 isn't a super rare car either yet certainly draws in the crowds.

I had a Vantage S before the R8. With the S exhaust in the open position the car souded incredible. Mine was quantum silver and didn't get too much attention. The R8 is a completely different story. Today I picked up the car from having my Stasis exhaust installed. I was headed home on the parkway and had it in 6th, just cruising (the exhaust sounds very docile at cruising speeds). I noticed a car coming up on me to the left and could just see the driver and passenger looking over at the car. As they started to pull ahead I saw the guy in the back seat going absolutely ballstic, jumping around in the car, waving his hands, yelling at me to get on it. I don't usually give in to that sort of thing, but I hadn't yet opened it up to hear the new exhaust. I gave it a quick blast and slowed down. The car pulled up on me again and this time they were all going crazy. I gave them a polite wave and moved along. That sort of thing never happened in the Aston.

I think those people went crazy because they thought the end of the world was coming??
