    Re: Fortitude thread

r starters, the launch engine is quite similar to that of the RS 4, a high-revving 4.2 V8 pushing out 420 bhp in the R8 and benefiting from dry sump lubrication – a setup adopted from the R8 racecar to help the road-going R8 cope with those long hard sweeper corners. Peak torque is 430 Newton-metres from 4,500 to 6,000 rpm. As engines go, this is as close as you’ll get in road-going form to the engine that powered Audi’s now-legendary R8 racecar. With that engine mounted amidships, the R8’s layout is also as close as you’re going to get to that racecar in production Audi form. The mid-engine configuration bestows the car with a 44% front:56% rear weight ratio from the threads off this site
so its not actually the same engine

It seems that Audi aren't 100% certain ... as has been seen from previous posts here ... on one Audi bit of R8 information you get 430PS ... on another you get 420PS ... I got an e-mail from a sales guy at the dealership holding my deposit and he said that it was pushing out 425bhp ... which is as near as makes no difference 430PS ... however, as has also been pointed out here ... both the engine power curves for the R8 engine and the specifications for the RS4 engine both show 309kW of torque ... although it is possible to get the same torque from engines with different BHP figures.

I think we will have to wait for Audi to realise they are confussing everyone and set us all straight with the actual power figures for the R8 engine.

I don't think this will be something that will be properly resolved/confirmed untiul it is done categoricaly by Audi themselves.

I just hope the record is set straight sooner rather than later ... if it's not resolved by the time I go to the UK reveal towards the end of this month, I'll be sure to ask
    Gone but not forgotten ...
VW Golf V6 4motion (does just what it says on the tin)
Vauxhall Lotus Carlton (a beast of a motorway cruiser)
Honda NSX, manual JDM (a beauty to drive anywhere)
Audi RS4, B7 saloon (awesome on any road - or track)
