    Sport mode causes whiplash?

I met with the service manager at my dealer today for lunch. While driving to the restaurant I turned on sport mode and magnetic suspension. In first gear at ~5,000 - 7,000 rpm the car bucked like a wild horse. The service manager said "that is not right, I wonder what happened". After lunch I could not duplicate the problem. I have had it had twice before under the same circumstances.

Has anyone else had this problem or better yet know how to fix it? The R8 mechanic had no clue. He is checking with Audi AG.

I have... I mentioned it in the R-Tronic thread. One of the first times I had it on, I was at a red light and when I went to ease onto the gas in preparation for it changing, the car nearly jumped into the intersection.

    Scary stuff

Sounds like a launch controll problem, Maybe????? Missed the shift? Maybe?? I have never had this happen in 7,500 miles. Was the buck a speed up type or slow down type??

I have the same problem - also when taking off very slowly .. feels like a bucking bronco (and not in a good way).

I have the 2008 R-Tronic. i have been driving more in manual due to the shifting delay in automatic. I have found the sport mode much better (quicker shift).

i wonder if this is the sdame as on the M3 SMG in sport mode? i think the main thing with the M3 is the traction kicking in waaaayyyyy too easy, and it made you look stupid kangaroo'ing up the frickin road....

Same thing exactly for me..I use A in sport mode mostly - A mode non sport is fine too, provided you take off at a normal speed - it;s the slow start that causes the bucking motion..

    Re: Sport mode causes whiplash?

Has anyone experienced this "bucking" with the manual? I think not. The first time I heard about this "bucking", that particular R8 also had the R-tronic, and it also eventually experienced a complete front differential failure. These events may, or may NOT be related. But I never believe in circumstance that is significantly outside of normal mathematical probabilities. And this "Bucking", no matter how benign, is coming directly from the R8's differentials. I would suggest to all R8 owners who experience this "BUCKING", to report it to your Audi service manager so you have a record with them about this problem.

Could be related to fuel delivery/quality. It sounds much like a problem many of us once had with our 997s.

Exclamation Re: Sport mode causes whiplash?

I NEVER drive in automatic mode with the sport mode on.Having both on together is an oxymoron.Maybe the capabilities of the computer reach max.when both auto-shift and sport are on at same time!!! P.S. I am still trying to blow my R 8 up with no success!!She works great still.7,650 miles.

    Re: Sport mode causes whiplash?

I have a manual and I have a problem that sounds very much like this. The car is going into the dealer tomorrow to see if they can figure out the problem.

I am not sure that I would call it bucking - more like a sudden loss of power that results in the car jerking badly. I have only seen it happen at about 7000 RPM. When it first happened, I thought maybe I had broken the tires free and lost traction.

Now I am seeing the MIL light come on at high RPM. It goes off if I take the RPM down. The tech is speculating that it is some kind of air delivery fan? They told me the name, but I can't remember what it was called. It does feel somewhat like a fuel delivery problem.

Hopefully I will have more to report after tomorrow's appointment.
