Looking at some pictures of the R8 with the rear bumper removed, I can't help feeling the gearbox is awfully exposed. The crush structure extrusions on the chassis rails 'look' slight and quite sacrificial. I am assuming inside the plastic part of the bumper these is quite a substantial reinforcement? Anyone know what the black pad on the end of the gearbox is for.
It 'ooks' like quite a small shunt would result in quite major damage, especially as if the bumper hits the geabox this will get pushed back into the firewall. Expensive!!
