A shame, but I couldn't get my head around that big heavy diesel lump spoiling the balance? And the diesel clatter at idle wouldn't have gone well with the image...

weight and engine note would be in the cons column, but masses of torque, range and better environmental credentials combined with novelty would have bee in the pros.

Do you think THAT much torque would be driveable - on Top Gear when they try the Mercs with the big lumps they spend most of the time with the TC light flashing or smoke pouring off the wheels - fun but slightly anti social ;-)

When i was at track-days, i had person after person telling me they had ordered one of these, to their dismay i told them all it was never going to happen .

Seems i was right, i met an engineer for bentley who told me (6-months ago) bentley where testing the V12 tdi in a 4x4 and that he also knew the R8 v12 was a no go.
