Manual owners - would you trade for a DSG if you could?

I know that we will likely never have this choice, but imagine if you could get a DSG for the R8. Would you go for it? I would have a real hard time moving away from the manual, even though I know that my overall performance could never approach that of a DSG based machine. There is something about a flawlessly executed shift sequence that I don't know if I could ever let go of in this car.

    Hi there,

I think its the fact audi is unlikely to offer DSG on the R8 that will prevent me from trading up to the V10, i recently tried the PDK version of the gearbox on the 911S and it is simply amazing. If it is offered on the upcoming 911 turbo i think this will be the next car for me.

Dont get me wrong i love the gated manual on my R8, but when your considering serious performane DSG gearboxes are the way forward, i would'nt be suprised if the upcoming RS5 if fitted with audi's version is quicker than the R8, food for thought!!.

    Hi,

I hope Audi visits this site! I have a V10 6 speed on order, but have inquired about the possibility of a DSG since it is a 2010 model. I would definaitly order the DSG if it was made available.
Whenever I take my car in for service, they provide an A3 with the DSG and it is a real blast to drive!

I'd never do that, the manual is simply orgasmic. I don't street race and so really I don't give a crap about overall speed. To me the R8 is perfection in a manual.

How quick is the best Audi DSG change at the moment? F430 Scuderia is 60ms and is simply amazing.

Thumbs up Re: Manual owners - would you trade for a DSG if you could?

Is the quickness of the shift the major difference between the DSG and R Tronik ?? Because the R Tronic shifts amazingly fast. Definitely not 60 ms. My next Super-car will probably be an automatik too ,as my freinds and I find the R8 R Tronic orgasmic too !!! Me been shifting (rowing the boat with one paddle in circles) all my life except for waaaay back when I owned the 911 T Sportomatik !!!! I didn't keep that one for very long. I have a short shift kit on ALL my standard rides.Even my 1958 VW Bug... 90.5 mm cyl, 78 mm stroker forged crank,150 HP,4 wheel disc brakes,,bus tranny, raised front spindles, lowered, early 911 S wheels, camber compensator,FAT sway bars, flop stoppers, traction bar, roll cage, dual 48 mm webers on medium manifolds, heads and carbs ported/blueprinted by CHONG. !!! This little beast actually handles quite well and launches off the stop like a Jiminy Cricket. It is black with black cherry mettalics. Her name is BLACK SUNSHINE. This bug is the first car I ever purchased. I used to slap Nitrous and a turbo kit on stock engines for fun.Now I am normally aspirated...Dual,Dual Throat 48's...they make a wonderful sound.Louder than the merged dual can exhaust. I know this extra info probably bores most ...BUT she is a Euro car, re built by an American though. So my first car is a Euro and my latest is a Euro as well !!!! STILL driving them both. To this day three of my 200 pound freinds were impressed by a Sunset Plaza Drive canyon run. That makes a 750 pound pay load including myself.Bug handled the turns even better with all the weight!!

Manual cars engage you, if you pardon the fun. They involve you more in the experience. I don't care if they are faster or slower or whatever, they just push more buttons. To perfectly execute downshifts and upshifts is an art, and one I love practising.
