    Problems?

    Hi Guys,

    Last question for this week

I've had a search of the threads and can't find anything so ... are there any known problems that occur with the R8 - either general or specific that people have had?

One of the reasons I'm leaning towards the R8 is reliability. The Aston forums have a fair few stories of unhappy customers (although they will always be vocal so not sure how representative they are) so wanted to know if the R8 is as bulletproof as I think it is or whether it does have it's own issues.

    Thanks
    Gary

    Re: Problems?

the main thing new owners post about if they haven't hit the search button seems to be the oil consumption - which runs at about 1 litre every 1500-2k or so miles.

    Re: Problems?

I ragged the a**e of mine until I read the running in section ;-) I've done 2000 miles and it hasn't used a drop..... Not sure if that is because or despite my best efforts....
    Best Regards, Ian

Brake squeal for the first 1K miles on mine. But that went away. There is a tiny noise coming from the engine bay after the first week, sounds like plastic rubbing against each other. Can’t locate the source, and nothing is loose. It can get annoying at times, but it does not happen all the time. And when it does, I just drive faster, or turn up the music.

Thanks guys. I did use the search function and all I found was the oil usage so thought maybe there was more that people just were not talking about. Seems not. I think I can live with topping up with oil every couple of months if needed

I wasn't being arsey about the search thing (although it does read that way) - I was trying to suggest that there are likely more people who think it's an issue until *they* search and find the threads on it. Same with the smokey exhaust on startup.

At least the oil isn't some obscure weight like bmw m's like to slurp

If it helps ... I have driven about 8500 miles. Minor problems I have had include: a faulty suspension level sensor on one of the rear wheels (was replaced after it "flipped" the second time), a faulty telephone control unit (replaced) and a vibration/buzzing from one of the side blades which disappeared when I had the original silver ones replaced with carbon fiber. I have had to add a liter of oil on two occasions (and the oil was changed at 4000 miles). Also changed the two front tires because one of them developed a bulge on the sidewall (almost certainly due to a pot-hole hit) and replaced one rear wheel and tire after hitting a curb (can't blame Audi for those!!). I had the curbed wheel repair so I have a spare which looks like new!

Got ya! And no offence taken anyway... I know some people can be really lazy when asking questions

    Re: Problems? - stereo

One more minor thing, like to see if anyone else here have the same problem — The stereo would go silent for 5 seconds every once in a while, on either radio or CD. It does not border me much, shouldn’t have border upgrade to B&O. Maybe the Audi version is working fine.
