A supercharged V 10 would make more hp I'm sure. But the charger might be bigger or smaller or be the same charger overdriven or underdriven depending on pulley sizes...Nevertheless, there is the beginning compression ratio that would determine the rest. Anyone know the stock comp. ratios?? A popular set-up is a twin supercharger kit for American V 8's. Check out BDS.( Blower Drive Services). They might even have a kit for the R8. BDS supercharges everything from your lawnmower to top fuel funny cars. I pick up bits and peices from them. They can be pricey sometimes, But they are closeby and have an inventory. There must be 4-5 different size blowers that could be used, not to mention dual setups.the day my doors get blown off by the V10 I'll be getting my engine blown.Fuel injection is nice but I'd rather be BLOWN !!!! I know a little bit about supercharging as I am building a Big Block 1/4 inch stroked ,510 C.I. Chevy .World products MERLIN heads.2.3 in. intakevalve,1.9 in. exh. 671 Mooneyhan magnesium supercharger, dual 650 CFM doublepumper carbs.Beginning comp ratio 8.75:1 . Pulley sizes will determine how much boost and etra H.P. Dream is to reach 1000 H.P.Maybe run ALCOHOL FUEL.

It seems that here in Korea, Audi is launching the V10 with little or no difference in price compared to the V8. Only about $12,000USD difference(and almost fully loaded). At first I was leaning towards a supercharger, but the recent price release is making me think things over again.

    Re: Supercharged 4.2 Vs.V10

As you mentioned above, I am not too sure of supercharging the V8 in its original form. It comes with 12.5 to 1 compression and that is very high for the 91 octane gas that is sold here in the US. If you really want to get more HP out of it, the compression should be lowered so that you can run more boost. Then you need to make sure the fuel system is designed well enough to handle the new needs. As the HP goes up, how well will the other components hold up to the new abuse?

Just remember, the more you mess with the car, the more likely it will need more attention. I had a few cars that were very modified and I do not miss the headaches of them breaking down or not working right. I like the concept of getting in a car and being able to drive it with no problems.

Reliability is a key issue. However, don't forget the Gearbox, Drivetrain, Brakes & Chassis can handle upto 520HP as they are exactly the same as the V10 model.

The only area of concern would be the engine itself. However, the RS4 engine has been supercharged for a long time now with minor issues PLUS the kit we are talking about runs low boost and intercooling. In Australia we also have access to great fuel upto 100RON.

So, in MY case, keeping a cool $10k cash in the kitty for an engine rebuild in the worst case is a small price to pay for a WEAPON!!!

Much cheaper than the depreciation HIT we've taken on our V8s then the upgrade difference to the V10.. In total $120k!!!

    Exclamation Re: Supercharged 4.2 Vs.V10

What is the C.R. for the RS 4 engine. Are the pistons changed out for the blower set up ? I could use at least 100 extra, reliable, ponies. More boost=more power=more heat=more fatigue .I guess intercooling is a must.
