Does anyone know how to switch off the Radio/CD player but keep the display ON to use the Nav Map or Telephone?
I can only MUTE the Radio or switch the whole system OFF.
Any ideas???![]()

Let me know if you figure it out ...I have never succeeded!!!
You cannot, as far as I am aware.
However, you can set the volume for radio/CD independent of volume for telephone & sat nav.
Just set the radio/CD volume to zero in the setup menu, so when you switch the engine on they start at zero volume. Just turn up the volume when you want to listen. Likewise, set up telephone & sat nav to the desired setting.
What I do is select an input that has no media, such as the Aux input or MP3 card or the CD changer. That does work, but I agree there really should be a better way to do it.

What exactly is the point? What are you trying to do that muting doesn't accomplish.
The problem is, I currently need to play an MP3 or a CD or the Radio then mute it, to use the Nav or Phone or Rear Camera on it's own, without music playing in the background.
Seems like a stupid implementation of the media system... Vorsprung Technik my bottom
BMW has a Radio/Media player On/Off switch so you can use the rest of the media system without Music in the background.

Exactly. We want to be able to use the several other functions of the "MMI" unit by leaving it on, without having to make some adjustment to the audio portion, every time we start the car.

Anyone know if when you go to radio you can have it always default to preset stations?
I am pretty sure he is referring to the radio just going to the last screen displayed, not the band of the last channel that the station was on. He would rather it default to preset rather than the band.
In my presets I have both Sirius and FM stations. If I turn the car off with the preset window displaying my current FM station, the next time I get in the car the radio shows the FM band with the station selected. What the other post was asking is if the radio can be set to just display the last screen that was shown (the preset, not the channel list of the band). If I am using a different source, SD Card or CD, and I switch to Radio, it goes to the last band screen of the channel I was on, not the preset screen.
It is the same for the nav. If you have the map showing and turn off the car, why does it automatically default to the address entry screen? Why not just display the last screen that was in use?
