I haven't had an opportunity to use it yet, but I plan on taking it to the dragstrip and wondered how the launch control was, if it's anything like this... I think that I'll like it

How is this procedure performed? rev with the brakes on, then when it hits 4-5K let go of the brakes?
Thanks
Car and Driver got 0-60 in 4.00 and 1/4 mile in 12.6 113 mph using launch control.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...cs+page-2.html
"We tested an R tronic model at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, and managed to achieve the benchmark 0-to-60-mph sprint in 4.0 seconds. Audi claims a 0-to-62-mph (100 km/h) time of 4.6 seconds, which sounds decidedly conservative compared with our data. The drill for maximum performance is to engage the launch-control function by braking and selecting the R tronic sport setting. This allows the engine to rev up to about 5000 rpm before you release the brake and it dumps the clutch. This produces brief wheelspin at all four corners before the car regains traction and rockets off to a quarter-mile time of 12.6 seconds at 113 mph"
Also Road and track got 4.00 flat using manual:

"So when we got our hands on a manual-equipped R8, we took it straight to the test track where the numbers told the story. From zero to 60 mph, the manual R8 clocked in at 4.0 seconds, 0.3 sec. quicker than the automatic"

Jesus - I had not seen that Road and Track story before. So they red line and then pop the clutch? Have any of you other manual owners tried this?
Wouldn't a dealer consider this transmission and clutch abuse if you tried it? Man that must be a thrill, but I don't think I have the cajones to give it a try.

O M G !!!! With the R Tronik ...Brake held...Rev as high as you want...Release brake and SAIYONARA!! Recently I tried to accelerate without Sport mode being on...what a gutless maiden. Forgetting to turn sport mode on can be dangerous if you are used to having it on all the time. Traction controll goes against everything I've learned to do with the standard. It feels a little strange to induce that kind of harshness, but that is what the computer is meant to help.Red line and release the clutch or red line and release the brake...It's all good
