    radar/laser detectors in R8?

Does anyone have experience with the Escort 9500ci....the "installed" system with dash readout and laser shifting? To read their literature, it sounds like the ultimate system. I know Valentine has its fans as well. Are any of them really worth the trouble? Which is really best?

Seems like somewhere in the past, someone showed a pic of an R8 dash
    with the 9500ci readout installed.

Also, and you CA guys can speak more to this than I can, my experience
in California has always been that "detection" is useless because the CHP has an uncanny way of just suddenly showing up on your tail, no matter what kind of lookout, detector, etc. you've deployed.

Years ago ('80 or '81?), driving with a bunch of guys in a van, doing a rapid 2000 mi. r/t from Oregon down to the Long Beach GP (when it was an F1 event), we had "lookouts" posted with binoculars, a scanner and a (admittedly crude in those days) radar detector. Despite all that, cruising 85-90, those CHP cars would just suddenly materialize on your tail, though you'd never see them otherwise!

In Oregon, fortunately, the technique seems usually to be the fixed position rather than that fluid patrolling that CHP uses.

That nice opening/space right below the Navi screen is perfect for small electronik devices.I keep my shades there...And forget things in the under seat boxes too...And there are nets on backsides of seats that never get used.Seems Audi tried to utilise all surfaces!!

On this subject....is there an easy way to plug in a windshield mounted device in the right passenger foot well, or do you need to use the arm rest cig lighter plug?

I would like a way to hook in the device in the foot well....many other cars which come with a foot well cig plug. I understand that a fuse box may be located some where around there. Can a direct connection to it be made which is easily hidden?

    Thanks.

Harrison.....my MB ML500 and my BMW M6 both have outlets in the passenger foot well. They are very nice to have there!

In the early 80s the CHP couldn't use radar and became very adept at picking out speeding "outliers". Now they just leave their units on and can be detected well in time. Occasionally you'll see one parked and using laser, but that's the exception.

Thanks for that thread MotherT. Great news for me then! Wiring up my V1 shouldn't be hard.

MotherT.....you and I have similar tastes in cars......I had a '91 NSX from when it came out until 2004 when we were all fooled that version 2 was coming soon! (yeah right!!) Since then I have been waiting for a similar "type" car....the R8 V10....!

So after 18 years of finding my first dream car, I'm waiting patiently for my next one to arrive in September.

Cool! I was real active on NSXPrime and such for years, but I finally gave up on Honda and got an R8. It's what the next NSX should have been. Even the V8 version of the R8 blows the NSX out of the water in every possible way, including looks which is quite something. I've shown it to several other NSX owners, and they are very seriously considering getting one. It's literally turned my heavily modified NSX into a garage queen. The V10 will be killer!!!

    cheers,

Thanks, Mother Tucker! That picture of yours is the one I remembered seeing. My faulty memory had it that it was an Escort and when I searched on Escort I didn't find it! Duh!

That's a very nice, sanitary install you've done there. After this further lapse of time, are you still satisfied with the performance of the unit?
