    new movie...

heres the latest movie i found on youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSNaLDLWq1M

    another question:
if we get our R8s.. how should we drive it in, at start.. of course you always wait until the engine is at norm temp, and then...? the usual way of using different rev levels, never stay at one, and use high gears etc? and that for the first 1k-2k km?

or more? any other good ideas.. its never to early to think about the safety of our loved ones ;-) imo

Regardless of whether the salesman says the engine has already been run in ... I would personally follow the guidelines as detailed in the owners manual ... I did this with my RS4, which has essentially the same engine, and required a running in period of about 2,500km (1,550m) if I recall correctly ... besides I can testify thar the engine in my RS4 is sweeter now (over 7,000miles after it finished it's running in period) than it has ever been!!! ... so forget thinking you can just blast away straight out of the showroom ... if you do you will not enjoy the full capability that the engine could offer you ... if you took the time to run it in properly.

I seem to recall that for the first 1,000km (620m) you are advised to keep engine revs below 5,000rpm ... then for the next 1,000km (620m) you are advised to keep the revs below 7,000rpm ... then over the next 500km (310m) you are free to briefly and occasionally use full revs ... the distances above are correct, although I'm not 100% certain I've got the first two sets of rev limits correct.

During the running in period it's advisable not to use full throttle for very long, trying to avoid it for all but the breifest of occasional moments ... also, try not to sit at the same rev range for long periods, instead try and use the throttle and gears to vary the rev range from time to time ... while it's advisable to avoid the use of excessive revs, or the excessive use of full throttle, it's just as important not to change up to early and put excessive strain on the engine by relying on too much torque ... instead of changing up too early make use of the permitted rev range and build up your speed by steadily building up the revs rather than changing up early and using higher amounts of throttle.
    Gone but not forgotten ...

Audi RS4, B7 saloon (awesome on any road - or track)

Thanks Paul - for this detailed advice....

while reading i was already picturing myself sitting in my Car revving around with a eye watching over the revmeter and with an ear listening to the rumble in the back...

it will be my pleasure to serve that engine as well as i can!..

does it matter if you run down the first 2X 1000km in 1 week or 1 month?.. cause i will probably not be able to get out of that car as easy as in my current one.. and will have those km's fairly quick ... ??

Time to clock up the running in distance is pretty much irrelevant ... so it shouldn't matter if you do in in a week or two ... rather than a month or so.

However, if you are determined to clock up the miles very quickly ... it might be worth increasing the distance of the first two stages to 1,200km each and making the last stage 600km ... an extra 500km should only take you an extra day or two if you're that keen to clock up the required running in distance.
