reliabilty question

I am new to the forum. My name is Chris. First I would like to say that I am looking to buy an R8 (mostly). The only hold up is the reliability of these cars. I know that Audi builds great cars with good to very good reliability. I guess that the fear stems from the lambo family line. I was on the their forums and it seemed the the life span of the clutch was just about five to seven thousand miles with the manual trans (with what was described as normal driving style). I fear that some of that family line has moved over to Audi. When I went to the local Audi shop and talked to a salesmen for about an hour he was not really able to tell how these cars would hold up in the long run. He said "That for the most part the people that have them in the area are just using them for weekend cars." A question that I have is has anyone had problems with there cars. Also for people with higher mileage cars how much is mantance and how many miles do you foresee that this car will last (with a "normal" driving stile). The reason that this is a consern I have had cars in the past that have been a snakes nest (ferrari).

I have had mine for 11 months, Rtronic, 5000 miles, no problem and no clutch problem/replacement. Knock on wood. No dealer visit except for one oil change.

10K miles on my manual. Clutch feels same as always.

15K, manual clutch, absolutely fine. 5 track events and driven hard.

Hi fox. I'm getting an R8 in August and it will be my only car and a daily driver and I have no worries at all.

Regarding Gallardo clutches - what you heard is an urban myth. Go to pistonheads and see how many G owners on there are well into 20K miles on clutches. Many even used as daily drivers. I would say that Audi has taken it's reliability and longevity to Lamborghini - it's not the other way round!

Read comments from the other members. What you have heard is quite untrue ! Anyway, you have an Audi 3yr parts and labour warranty.

I have done 70,000 miles in my RS4, chipped to 420 bhp. It's been tracked numerous times and I'm still on my first clutch............. (but near to the end of my second set of brake disks)

About 17,000 km and no problems whatsoever.

I expect that the R8 will be just about as reliable as any other Audi.
