    Trade-in shocker

I've just had an updated trade-in figure from my dealer due to the imminent arrival of the
    V10.

He quoted me £69k in January, and, with used Astons and Porsches fetching much increased prices recently, I was expecting a moderate improvement. I fell off my Recaro when he quoted me £58k for an Oct 08 plate, 6MT, all usual options and 9K miles.

That's a financial loss of £3k per month, and that hurts!

I'm biting but I'm not too chuffed about it. I checked with a mate in the trade and he confirmed the worst.

Mike - can you send me details of your full spec as I might be interested in your car and I'm sure I could come up with more than the dealer if the spec suits!!

    Thanks
    Gary

    Re: Trade-in shocker

To be honest I know that even Aston dealers are offering low bids for cars even though prices have supposedly hardened.

I'm looking at 2 R8s at present at dealers. Both at around 1000 miles with around £8-10K off list at around £82-84K - I'd hate to think what they would offer me if I was trading in. I'm guessing mid £70K?

Unless you are going to keep a car for many years ANY quality high value car will depreciate like this.

    Re: Trade-in shocker

is it really a surprise? the r8 was taking a softer hit than most in its class, but that was always going to struggle to hold once there was more ready supply and the v10 to act as the new range topper.

astons took a bigger hit earlier on so there's room for some improvement for them given they hit the sweet spot where a different band of buyers could look at them pushing the demand back up.

I am trying very hard to rationalise it, but hate the feeling of being at the mercy of the dealer at this late stage.

Gary, I will pm the spec to you.

    Re: Trade-in shocker

I would never again throw £000's away on replacing my car for the same model but with upgraded performance.

I did this some years ago when I traded in my Jaguar XK8 for the then new XKR . It took about a week for me to realise that the guy getting the real pleasure was the Dealer

Motto is never buy basically the same model twice - second time around just isn't the same. Anyone who tells you different is only trying to justify their mistake
