New/Updated Nav System?

Anyone know if all 2010's, V8 and V10, are coming out with the new Audi Nav system? Especially 2010 cars now built and on way to dealers already? I thought I saw something about a few early 2010 cars possibly being produced with the old system and visuals???

It seems that no one knows for sure. I've been carefullly watching posts on this topic, since I've got a v8 from build week 28 (July 6) that's on the boat now.

The most authoritative post is over on Fourtitiude where George, one of their staffers, reports on a discussion w. AudiUS about this. What is pretty definite is the the Audi Music Interface (AMI) i-Pod adaptor that is an option with these newer elctronics is NOT available in R8's until build week 32 (Aug. 2). This is reported to be due to problems fitting the AMI in the space now occupied by the 6 changer. So the AMI (per the 2010 order guide) cannot be orderd on R8's prior to "August production."

The hard factual information pretty much ends there, but this has led to the speculation on this forum and elsewhere that perhaps the entire "gen 3" electronics upgrade with higher res. nav. screen was not going to be put into 2010 R8's prior to week 32. But nowhere has this been definitely stated. It has been speculated that if the problem was redesign of the rear firewall space for the AMI/6 chgr. swap, that perhaps just the AMI is unavailable until week 32 cars but they will (or won't?) have the rest of the upgrade with new screen, traffic infor, larger SD card capability, etc., etc.. Audis published statement about the new nav. just states it's offered in 2010 R8's (and TT's and A3's I believe).

I'd love to know now, but my car is already built, so it either does or doesn't have the upgraded electronics. I didn't order it expecting the upgrade, since it was not known to be offered in R8's at all when I wrote my order. So if I get it, it will be as a "windfall" for me and I will feel lucky. And it I don't, I'll get the car with electronics as I expected when I wrote the order. I can hardly be disappointed in that can I! So I guess it's win/draw for me and anyone else who gets one of these early 2010's!

PS: StuM, perhaps what you saw was something unknown to me. Do you recall where you saw it?

FWIW my V10 is a week 40 build slot and has the AMI on the order in lieu of the CD changer.

For some reason my dealer thinks it will be in the glove box and not where the CD changer was ????

according the the info I've seen (my post above), the AMI is available from week 32, so in a car from week 40, I expect you'll get it

if your dealer told you something about the glovebox, maybe he has some knowledge newer than what I've seen; George, in the Fourtitude post referred to, says (or speculates, I'm not sure which) something about redesign issues with placing the AMI in that rear 6 chgr. location

so, who knows? maybe they decided to put them in the glove box now?

what we need to know is: who's got the first REGULAR PRODUCTION v10 (or v8) out there? (meaning one built after the late May/early June model year break, not a pre-production run car, of which a number of early "demos" will be) AND does that June/July production car have the new "gen 3" nav screen with traffic info and 3D nav?

there's got to be a new one out there pretty soon!

mine (a v8) was built the week of 6 July and is reported on the boat now and expected at the dealer way out her in the wilds of NW America the week of 7 Sept.; someone in the UK, or Eastern US undoubtedly has a car NOW that was built around then or in late June

This site does a real service for Audi . Yet not too many people even know about this website . I have peeked around at the other makes websites and they are TOO big . Another reason to enjoy our R8s...Exclusivity (some). Is this site available in different languages ? Thankfully everybodies English is REAL GOOD.

I recall seeing an early car # buyer state that his dealer told him his car would not have the upgraded nav and graphics. I thought it was on one of the other Audit sites, but I can't find it any longer. My dealer doesn't seem to know. I hope to get into one of the local cars early this week to see for myself. I'll advise.

I have been told that my V-10 (blk/blk) is due at the dealership Monday (7/27) and I will let you know if the nav is the updated version or not. This is a factory limited pre-release R8 with Audi having selected the optional equipment although I am told it does have what I would normally have selected.
Basically, I have found that no one at the dealerships (3) knows anything in depth about anything regarding these rare and wonderful machines... no more so than when the first R8's came out... I learn more about them on r8talk than anywhere else!

You should look at the thread above by Stu. He has pics of a black car on his post. I believe he lives around you so the pics could be your car!

If somebody gets their hands on, or gets a close look at a 2010 v10 OR v8 and can report whether or not it has the NEW NAV, please if you would be so good, give us the last 3 digits of the VIN also! Mine is 551 (probably the 551st R8 built in 2010, since its build date was 7/6 (week 28), about a month after the 2010 production supposedly starts. That would be about right at 22 odd cars/day x 25 odd days.

So if you're reporting that a 2010 has or does NOT have NEW NAV, giving us the last 3 digits of the serial # will help place it in the production order. (the VIN should have "A" for 2010 in the 10th digit and "N" for Neckarsulm in the 11th digit and then digits 12 thru 17 are the serial production number....all but the last 3 should be 0's this early in the 2010 build year)
