UK Owners - Anyone use a tracking device?

I'm thinking of having Tracker installed in my R8 but not sure if worth it or not. I hear thieves use scanners to find the unit and disable sp may not be worthwhile anyway!

My car has Audi's Cobratrak 5 system fitted. It was mandatory for my insurance but isn't the best system as you have to notify Cobra if the car has been taken.

I've had a lot of experience with Cobra's NavTrak which is a proactive system that requires you to have a credit card sized smart card with you when driving the car. It's a better system IMHO as Cobra will call you with an alert almost immediately if your car is started or moved without the smart card. It's not cheap but seems better.

Cobra have a similar system with ADR's (automatic driver recognition) cards, sounds like they recommended the 'wrong' one.

Any of the retail GSM / GPS (which is nearly all of them) type trackers can be instantly disabled by a professional thief without him even having to find it. The value in trackers is the insurance discount they get you.

Yes it is Cobrtrak 5. Dealer price is £829 (including one year subscription) plus fitting according to Audi site. Seems excessive to me - is it?

I had the delaer fit Cobratrak 5 to my car, it was one of the better systems for the price when I picked my car up 18 months ago. Its not the cheapest but I think its a pretty good system, every time I've forgotten to carry the security fob theyve rang and texted me within 5 minutes to check that everything is ok.

18 months ago there was a lot of hype that the R8 would be the professional car thief's car of choice, I'm guessing but I think in the uk it's actually been quite the opposite.
