This puppy needs respect in the wet!!

Yesterday I had a real brown shorts moment. Got a big, no HUGE, tankslapper as it aquaplaned over a big patch of standing water. Those big rear tyres don't like standing water. I remember seeing that Russian guy spinning and thinking what an idiot, not so sure now!!! I have 30 years driving experience and have done rallying, karting and professional racing in saloons and I JUST caught it. Take care in the wet guys ;-)
    Best Regards, Ian

    Sounds really scary..Glad your safe.

Can you possibly give a bit more detail.

    Speed?
Tankslapper--do you mean fishtailing -left to right at the back etc or did all four wheels aquaplane
Was the standing water very shallow or a bit deep.
Was the rest of the road dry around the standing water

    Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Last fall I was driving in the rain and encountered a section of the road where there was standing water in the slight grooves that had been worn into the road by the traffic. All of a sudden the car felt light and I concluded that I was not far from hydroplaning so I eased up on the throttle. So I don't necessarily think that Russian guy was an idiot either. I have 305's in the back. Since that time I have gotten VERY cautious in the rain.

ditto, I have felt the car glide a few times. Easing off the throttle a bit and letting the weight settle as speed decreases usually does the trick.

    * Just around 70 (officer!)

Tankslapper--do you mean fishtailing -left to right at the back etc or did all four wheels aquaplane

    * 100 yards looking out of first one side window and then the other!! After the first snap, it was a four wheel aquaplane..

Was the standing water very shallow or a bit deep.
    * It didn't look deep and my tyres are new

Was the rest of the road dry around the standing water
    * No, was raining steadily but not that hard.
    Best Regards, Ian

I understand, tires were new. What BRAND/MODEL and SIZE (295 or 305) tire, if I might ask?

Keeping down to 295s was one of the reasons I spec'd the V8 wheel on my V10 order and not the optional 305s (I don't like the standard V10 wheel)

Second. Although I am not sure 10mm will make that much of a difference.

I spec'd the titanium finish, which comes with 305 tires. My next set will probably be 295s.
