    $80K over MSRP for a V-10

Saw the V10 for the first time yesterday MSRP is 160K, plus an additional $80K over msrp. That is $240K for it.... I was very surprised by it. I don’t have that kind of money, even if I did... Is it just me or this is crazy. For those of you here who can easily afford many v10, would you pay $80K extra just to be the first one to own it?

The 4.2 is just fine, anyone willing to cough up 240k for a v10 deserves to get bent without vaseline

No frigging chance. It was just crappy when Ford dealers did that with the GT500s and Ford basically said too bad, so sad. Worst part is, even if the builder has a clause in their franchise agreement, the dealer principal simply buys the car and resells it as used for the marked up price. As consumers best we can do is avoid such dealers, name them and shame them!

The Premiums on cars will not last long. Wait 12 months and pick it up for $80K under I say!

I have always thought anyone paying "overs" is mental

I would never pay over for a new car, in fact I can't remember the last time I didn't get a discount of some sort.

Also the V10 has been out in Europe / UK for a couple of months+ so you are not even 'the first to get it' and anyway, who wants the first of a new model off the production line, the first few weeks production is usually full of bugs !!

it all depends on how much you want the car and the relative financial impact of the "over" - I know some are happy to wait for prices to drop, but that means missing out on a lot of driving time that you can't get back with the discount.

I can understand it if the car or product is a limited run and when they are gone they are gone, but Audi will carry on making R8s as long as people want to buy them.

That would be £143k so if it had all the options etc then wouldnt be too bad but still a bit steep to go $80k over.

to be clear, $80k over list for the v10 seems hard to justify to me, but I don't subscribe to the idea that it's "mental" to ever pay over list.

Missing out on months of driving the r8 during the wait for prices to fall, or buying a lesser car as an interim measure on principle seems every bit as mental to me.

mainstream cars lose money - in that scenario, a relatively small over at the outset pales compared to the depreciation over the first few years of ownership.

    Re: $80K over MSRP for a V-10

I hear what you say and I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'mental' but, personally I doubt if I would pay over for a new car. Of course we all take different views.

I also think a lot of it is hype and dealers trying it on; there are people here talking about $80k over and two months ago I was able to place an order for a V10 exactly to my spec for delivery 3rd quarter this year and I got a discount from a dealer I had never used before.

Please don't ask where or how much because I don't want to make a rod for anyone's back but it was well worth having!
