    Tyre Choice

Down Under R8's come standard with 8.5 x19 front with 235/35 Pirelli P Zero and 11 x 19 Rear with 295/30 Pirelli P Zero tyres.
Anyone tried an alternative brand and how did they compare. I'm referring mainly for road use.
    Thanks

    Re: Tyre Choice

I have no other experience with other tires yet on the R8, but a couple of questions that might help steer you in the right direction.

You say mainly for road use...

What is important to you? Do you want the maximum dry handling? Do you need a combination tire that is good for rain too? Does tire wear matter much? How about price? Are there aspects of the P-Zero you do not like? Are you changing sizes of the tires and/or rims?

I have heard a lot of people like the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 for other cars.

I know there are some track tires that are rated for street use, they are supposed to handle great but wear out quick and not the greatest for wet conditions.

Since I don't drive my R8 in the rain , The Toyo R888 might be my next tire choice. An approved street tyre that handles track use as well. It is available in the sizes we need.

    Re: Tyre Choice

I'm particularly interested in a good wet weather tyre. I tend to drive hard in the wet. Tyre life and price not critical. Track day once a year. Only done 2000 km on P Zero's which don't seem too bad. Really feeling out options for my next set. No intention to change rim sizes.
    Thanks for feedback.

PS2's are great rain tires in my experience (and I live in a rainy place!)

you may be too far away to order from them, but Tire Rack has an outstanding web site for performance tire shopping with tire reviews, comparison tests (by them) and pretty intelligent ratings (by their customers)
best place I know to read up on comparative qualities of tires

    Thumbs up Re: Tyre Choice

The Tirerack website is indespensable . They have helped me make a lot of tire size/buying decisions for many vehicles.

very interesting, desperado: all 3 of those links lead to the SAME PAGE on autoguide.com....not that I don't know how to find tirerack on my own, but I wonder what's hi-jacking your links?

PS: oops! sorry, if you copy and paste individually they do take you to the tirerack index, wierd!

    Re: Tyre Choice

so for those of us who live in generally snow-free climates P Zeros as the maker intended are still the best all round choice.

Wow, that's pretty sleazy that this board hijacks links and points them to autoguide.
