About to pull the trigger on the V10!

    Hello all,

I am looking to pull the trigger on the new R8 V10. Not that there is anything wrong with the V8. Question of getting more (for what? don't know! who cares!).

Any thoughts? Good idea or not? Sound of V8 vs V10? Some say V8 sounds better? Some say V10 is not that much faster? (I don't believe that).

I'd appreciate some of your feedback, opinion, comments.

    Thanks!

From what i've seen, imo the V10 looks and sounds better. It isn't that much faster based on top speed only being 10mph faster? But i would guess that 10mph at those speeds is a big difference, but from a thread on here a while a go i don't think anyone has pushed any R8 to the limit. The 0-62 mph speed difference between V8 and V10 to me seems quite big so if faster acceleration is what you like then you will love the V10 Hope you come to the best decision (because im not quite sure if you have decided to get the V10 or thinking it over)

Re: About to pull the trigger on the V10!

I have driven both but only in test drives.

The thing that stood out to me was the V10 had more torque at low and mid reves and no flat spot in the power band.

I normally spect up my cars and I would have to spend a lot on the V8 to get it to V10 spec.

I much prefer the V10 sound but then I like race car sound over muscle car sound.

I don't think anyone would be unhappy with either but if moneys not a problem then get the 10 !

As for options, extended leather is a must and I don't like the V10 wheels so spec'ed the V8 ones instead.

If you already have a V8 I wouldn't bother upgrading to a V10 unless there are other reasons for which you want a new car.

The V10 is definitely quicker in any situation and feels more linear and refined in its power delivery but the V8 has more subtle and stylish looks imo. Engine sound - yes they are different - I prefer the V10 'race tuned' sound and the fact that it is quiter and more refined at low revs and startup.

If you were coming to the R8 from scratch and wanted a spec which included the V10 standard options then I would go for a V10.

If you were coming to the R8 from scratch and cost was an issue I would go for a used or pre-registered dealer V8. The difference between the 2 cars is not huge.

Personally I'm waiting 12 months for a used V10 when the cost to change from my 18 month old V8 is more in line with the incremental performance. At the moment a V10 would cost me double what I'd get for my V8.

Re: About to pull the trigger on the V10!

I've been in both but personally prefer the sound of a v8 and don't think I'd really gain enough on the road to warrant changing to the v10 even though that was the original plan I had.

I'm struggling to come up with a car that I'd change the v8 for.

agree with geffers that right now, buying a well specced v8 new makes little sense given the small price difference to the v10 and its standard kit.

I agree, the V10 does look better. Especially the new wheels.

I am mostly looking for the 0-62 difference; that was my reference to speed. I should have been more precise.

I'll be selling my R8 V8 to a relative overseas just like I sold him my AM Vantage. He's able to "pass" cars into the country without paying any customs so I get the price I want for selling and he makes a large profit re-selling them there.

I have extended leather in my V8 and will also have it in the V10; I believe it looks the best. As far as for the new wheels, I hated them on pictures at first but then saw them in real life and loved them.

Agreed. It's a big plus. You can get a brand new R8 V10 in the USA for 160-170K. I believe it's a bargain for what you get in return.
