Does anyone know what the 2009 R8 allocation was?
only someone with an inside track at Audi would be able to answer that, and we don't seem to have such a person on this forum these days
one of the very first, if not the first, v10s on the forum, delivered to the (UK)owner in June and described by him as "late May production," was actually an '09 model year and he shared that its serial # was in the "low 4100s", so
we can know that they built probably fewer than 4200 '09's, world-wide ('09 production ending the end of May, we've heard)
what share of those came to the US is anyone's guess; I seem to recall reading, way back in the early days of the R8...mid to late '07, when the first R8's were just beginning to be delivered to the US, the guess that "about one-third" of the projected 5000/yr production wouild go to the US (or prehaps that was N. America?)
so that would make the guesstimate in the 1300-1500 range, if it was about one-third of that 4200 number; but who knows?
we did hear rumor like comments that when the US economy tanked, production was being diverted other places, like the Mid-East, Orient, Russia? but as I say: Who Knows?
it would be interesting to see who has the highest '08 serial #--to give us an insight into how many '08's there were

Audi of America releases monthly and year-to-date sales figures (see the Audi media site). See: http://www.audiusanews.com/newsrelease.do?id=1440
I think that there were earlier posts on the forum with the figures from 2009.
Wow! So assuming every R8 "allocated" to the US is "sold", my estimate, based on marketing intentions at the outset, is off by about double the real number. Of course, there's a certain number sent to press, demo, Audi Experience duty, etc. (which I've heard are never sold). And in the early years, that's probably been a sigt. #, esp. as versus these surprisingly small sales.
That's good stuff, swansailor! I've heard mention of that web site, but never took the time to sniff it out. Do you recall a yearly sales # for '07 and '08?
(number is '07 must have been very small).
So, extrapolating those #'s: if they sell 750 R8's/yr. here, that's like only on-sixth of world prod.. Surprises me!

95% of the worlds population don't live in the USA and there are 194 other countries![]()
which is why it's pretty amazing that something over 25% of Ferrari sales and 40% of Porsche sales are made in the US*
and a little surprising therefore that only around one-sixth of R8s made appear to have been sold in the US
*(admittedly, those are recent history but not current, and US sales of both are characterized as "off" traditional highs)
I think that's GOOD for R8 prices in the US, since it's virtually impossible nowadays to import cars not oem built for the US market, that keeps the supply down

I am surprised at the Porsche figure............
From the Audi 2008 Annual Report:
Vehicle Production
2008 R8 : 5656
2007 R8 : 4125
Deliveries to Customers:
2008 R8 : 5016
2007 R8 : 2952
From the PR website:
2009 R8 July YTD US : 384
2008 R8 Total US : 900
2007 R8 Total US : 240
I was told (and shown) a list of names of California US 2009 R8 owners and the total delivery of 2009 R8's in California through January was 109.
Extrapolate from there...

were there "model year 2007" R8's? if so, only in Europe?
I thought sales began in 2007 but cars delivered to owners were "model year 2008" cars from the outset? Or is that (only) true of US R8's?
one problem with coming up with %-ages from these figures is the production numbers don't say whether they refer to "built in ____calender year" (most likely I would guess) or to the "model year" the car was labelled with, which leads the former number by 7 months; one assumes the sales refer to "year sold" and NOT the "model year" of the car sold.
