    Weight Watchers!

Buried in the Frankfurt show items is the bit that the new R8 spider "only" weighs 3792 lbs.! No wonder they're only selling it with the v10!

well, I think they've all gained a little weight! the original v8 coupe weighed
in sl. over 3500 in the early road tests, I seem to recall

but the AudiUS website lists 3608 for the v8 coupe and (interestingly enough), doesn't seem to list a weight for the v10

Frankfurt show article says spider is "only" 14 lbs (that's a "stone" isn't it?)
"more than the coupe", so maybe most of that nearly 3800 lbs. is the v10,
but @ 3800 lbs., we're talking HEAVY CAR now!

just a reminder that all the "goodies" we like to have cause the car to GAIN WEIGHT! fortunately, cars don't like pizza

The gross weight for the V10 is 1920kg for Manual and 1925kg for R-Tronic, that means its 4233 lbs for Manual and 4244 lbs for R-Tronic. The Unladen weight for both V8 and V10 are 300kg (661 lbs) lighter than the gross weight.

well, it's hard to compare apples to apples in this weight thing; I just remember at the intro of the R8, Road&Track magazine commenting that
the car was just a shade over 3500 lbs.---that was obviously not a "gross" weight figure; but 100 lbs. here and 100 lbs. there and pretty soon it gets up there!

    Re: Weight Watchers!

I just weighed two of them this week: My 2009 was 3660lb (with two 11# spools of welding wire in the trunk - can you say daily driver?). The other, a 2008, was 3640lb. Neither one was cleaned out of personal possessions, so these weights are indicative of real world operating weights with fuel, tool kit, etc and cannot be directly compared against the brochures.

How much weight has the lack of sideblades shaved off the Spyder?

Sidblades are minimal. A spyder needs to have the frame and other structural items beefed up due to the loss of the solid roof.

I know i'm jw what makes up the weight difference between the Coupe and Spyder. The strengthened chassis adds weight but an alluminium roof shouldn't weigh a lot?
