Isn't a lot of difference between the 2...just shows how good a tesla is seeing as it's electric.
also helps that it's a relatively short, twisty track that favors the teslas flat torque curve

I take everything top gear says with a massive pinch of salt - they're an entertainment magazine show rather than a true car review show. They repeatedly show their lack of attention to detail/accuracy and their bent towards making entertaining tv over accurate tv.
but assuming the tesla wouldn't overheat, I think it would be interesting to see how they fared against each other in terms of range (full tank vs full charge) around a track. given how thirsty the r8 can get at full chat, I'd lean towards the tesla.

I'd put $100 on the R8 beating it hands down, many many laps over, even at full chat you should get 6-7MPG and at that speed in terms of distance it would be in the next state.....

you could well be right on that.
the r8 has a 90 litre tank (19.8 UK gallons) - at 7mpg that's a range of just 138 miles. At the 5mpg that top gear said they got in their 1 gallon supercar challenge that's 99 miles.
I've seen the figure top gear extrapolated at 55 miles range for the tesla, but not seen any real data for the range on track - has anyone else?

What we need is to throw the gauntlet down to the Tesla forum ;-)
