If I press the ESP off button for a short time the msg I get is ASR off. What does that do? Just stops engine management intervention? Is it the same as F430 in race mode?

For today’s typical high-torque engines, a form of wheelslip regulation or traction control (ASR) can increase both comfort and safety, particularly on surfaces with differing coefficients of friction or on slippery roads. It makes smooth starts and acceleration possible through all speed ranges without wheel-spin or fishtailing.
ASR only operates in conjunction with the electronic accelerator (E gas) and uses components of the anti-lock braking system (ABS). If one wheel suddenly begins to rotate faster than the others (slip), ASR intervenes in the engine management system and reduces power until the wheel stops spinning.
ASR improves traction and can help the driver maintain control even if the limit of adhesion is inadvertently reached while cornering. In addition, it reduces tire wear. ASR activation, is indicated by a flashing light in the instrument cluster; it works with the electronic differential lock (EDL) and it is also part of the electronic stabilization program (ESP). ASR can be deactivated with the ESP switch.
cool so if i want some more oversteer fun which staying a bit safe cause the ESP is on i need to turn ASR off...
Think thats right...is it holding it down that turns both off or holding it down that only turns ASR off?
ASR - Anti-Slip Regulation
The ESP (Electronic Stability Programming) and the ASR are tied together.
Hit the button, get the little yellow icon on the dash and you can throw the car sideways to a point. After you get about 45 degrees or so out of shape, the ESP takes over and saves you.
I call the ESP button the "Fun Button".

Press down ASR off ,hold it down a couple of seconds ESP and ASR off. So sounds like its safe to turn ASR off as ESP will save the day if i mess up too much...
To "launch" your car, you would need to disable ESP AND ASR. That's mainly what I ever use the button for.
Up until this morning, I never knew that I could hold down the ESP button and turn off the ESP separately.
Tried it this morning on the way to the dealership for service and audio repair.
I always assumed that they (ASR/ESP) worked in tangent. (and I guess I should sit down one day with the manual and see what other wonderful things I have yet to discover!)
I wonder if this works in my RS6 too? - to be able to turn off the ESP completely in that would be fun in the rain.

should work on RS6 as well
