Well I think my name says it all

    Hello all,

I am new here. I just found this forum after being on 6speed for a long time. I am more of a lurker than a participant. I am in the market for a new toy. I am heavily leaning toward a new R8. Right now I am thinking the V10, but could be okay with the V8.

    So now to my dilemma...

I would drive the car 3-4 days a weak. I live in Southern California so weather woudn't be an issue. I am considering a couple of other cars too. I understand that they aren't all in the same category. Please be nice and unbiased if you reply. Keep in mind that I'd like to drive it as often as possible. So here are the choices...

    1. R8 (in first place right now)
    2. AM V8 4.7
    3. Maser GTS

    Please, any replies are appreciated.

Haven't driven any so all great cars, good power, look good, seem like good daily drivers so it's a hard choice. On looks it's a REALLY hard but personal choice the Maserati looks best. Handling I would guess everyone would favour the R8? And power I believe the R8 just has it over the Maserati. Overall decision for me, not being biased, would be the R8.

P.S. This is going by the V8, if it was a V10 that would be the hands down choice

I have an R8 on order and intend on using it as my everyday car so I am clearly biased toward that (sorry - I know you said not to be!). My current car is the XKR and is much like the Aston Martin in terms of styling and practicality (Ian Callum designed both) - a beautiful car that you would not be displeased with. A friend of mine has the GranTurismo and absolutely loves it.

Drive them all and pick whichever one that puts the biggest grin on your face when you walk up to and when you get out of it!

I have a V10 M6 ('06) and a new, 2010 V10 R8. Both are terrific cars but a mid-engine car is different than a front or mid-front engine car. Do you want a Grand Tourer like I did with the M6? Then get one of the other cars. That's what they really are.

If you want the BEST V10 modern mid-engine car available at a reasonable price....buy the V10 R8. Get which ever tranny you want, but I love the automated manuals in both of my cars. I will never go back to a clutch that I have to play with constantly. Especially in traffic on the Southern California roads.

The R8 is a terrific car, but any of your choices are. BUT if you want the hottest one on the road TODAY, get the R8 and get the V10!

Re: Well I think my name says it all

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your replies. I was kind of joking when I requested unbiased replies. I knew better than to really expect them on a R8 forum. As stated before, The R8 is in my first choice right now. I don't need a Grand Tourer. I think I could live with it as an almost daily driver like DailyDriver. I like the AM Vantage's looks and have heard that the improved/increased power is just what it needed. I like the Maser but I'm afraid of reliability issues. I have had Audis before and didn't have any major issues. I would probably opt for the Automanual. The SoCal traffic is not kind.

I will try to get out and test them but the dealers around here aren't very kind about letting first time customers test drive these cars. Is there any secret to convincing them? I am 36 years old, but I look about 26-28.

My R8 is my daily drive now..........You can drive it 24/7 without a problem and to be frank it turns more heads than the AM's where I am.
I intend to buy a Maserati Granturimo S when age catches up on me and I need a more of a grand tourer than a sports car..

I was looking at mostly the same cars you listed (DBS instead, and considered 911 Turbo or GT3 & SL65 too). What really was a selling point for me was the lack of the R8s I saw on the road.

If you really want to get a great test drive of an R8, look at the Audi Sportscar Experience. I did the 2 day R8 class and fell in love with the car so much I purchased one on my way home. And the new classes are in the V10 R8.

I considered a DB9 but was afraid that it wouldn't be as fun to drive as a Vantage. I don't need the useless extra seats. I like the 911TT but where I live and work they are fairly common.

I will look into the Audi Sportcar Experience. That sounds fun.

Not familiar w/the Maser you're mentioning, but everything I've heard about modern Masers is that they're basically a Mustang as far as performance goes, just in pretty clothing.

R8 as a daily driver - YES!!! I drive mine every day in ALL weather conditions. I've taken it on more than one cross country trip too - my fiance' and I can pack (tightly) enough in the car to live for 11 days thus far w/o any problems.

    Get the R8!

The machine is a wonderful daily driver. It's comfortable, very easy to drive and when you want to get a bit wild, all you have to do is step on the fun pedal.

    Good morning gents,

Kfab, I think you just wrote what I needed to read. You have taken trips in the R8? Wow! I don't think I'd need to take a long trip in it. I have an Expedition for that. But I'd love a trip to the mountains. That's about an hour and a half. So I guess it's pretty comfortable?

Can anyone give me their thoughts on the auto-manuel? I'd like to be able to be in auto for morning commutes to the office... IN TRAFFIC. But when I want to play, have the paddles.
