    Audi Extended Warranty

    Hi Guys,
My build week 46( 2nd week Nov) V10 getting close now.
Has anyone bought the Audi 1 or 2 year extended warranty?
Must be purchased from new vehicle delivery only, Audi(UK) website quotes £1010 for extra year ( to 4 years/75,000 miles) or £2500 for extra 2 years ( to 5 years/90,000 miles).
The main independent UK Warranty company can't really quote for the R8 yet but for 1 extra year on my TT is £720 & for Q7 is £850. So official Audi warranty looks to be pretty good?
Current plan is to keep car for a long time, but you never know whats round the corner( pun intended).

    Re: Audi Extended Warranty

In the US, we can purchase the extended warranty any time - as long as the 4 year factory warranty is in place. Be sure to check if the extended warranty can be transferred to a new owner. Auto manufacturers have been changing these to NON-transferrable lately.

    Re: Audi Extended Warranty

If you are planning on keeping the car a long time then for sure buy the extended warranty - pretty much if anything goes after the initial warranty it will cost more than the premium for the extra warranty..

My debate on this would be will I want to keep the car for a long time? I love the car, but its also my 1st car in this league and I will probably want to try something else - I have 2 years to go on my 4 year warranty and I'll be into either a R8 V10 or something else before the warranty expires..

    Re: Audi Extended Warranty

The Audi Extended/CPO warranty is no longer transferrable (there are a few that are, like Porsche) so you really need to make your best guess on how long you're going to keep the car. I'm an old dude and have only kept one car for more than six years since 1968 so I probably wouldn't do it up front (and didn't). If I still have the car when the factory warranty is expiring, and plan to keep the car, I'll buy one for sure.

I just put the Audi Ext. Warranty (7 yrs./70k miles; "Platinum") on my new 2010 and it cost me $2800. Per the last page of the contract, is IS TRANSFERRABLE to a private purchaser for a small fee and proof of all routine service being accomplished at recommended mileages.

The person who handles that at my dealership gave me a big song and dance about how it MAY be placed anytime up to expiration of the Mfrs. std. warranty, but it ALLEGEDLY "costs more." I question if that is true, since I suspect you could probably cut about the same deal a year or two out, but I knew I wanted it anyway, so I went ahead.

Probably an old document (or do they have 2 - transferable/non-transferable?). I think they'll tell you anything to sell the policy. I don't know the circumstances and I don't want to freak you out, but here's a poor S8 owner who thought his CPO was transferable and found out it was not!

Audi USA's CPO brochure, note the revision date - 11/06.

Comparison of current US CPO programs on MSN...

If the agreement you signed indicates the CPO is transferable, I'm sure they'll honor it but you might need to sit on them when the time comes.

Audi is doing this CPO smoke & mirror act to protect their CPO program from private party CPO sales (those WITH a transferable warranty). Think about it. The only difference between a PP transferable CPO sale and a dealer CPO sale is that the dealer runs a carfax (which you can do) and does a CPO inspection/make repairs (which you can do also - and have the new owner perform any repairs under the CPO warranty). There are couple other things on the CPO inspection, like tires & brakes, but you can take care of these too. Otherwise, they just charge people more for the same car - someone has to pay for those nice Audi dealerships! They would love to take PP CPO sales out of their CPO marketing equation by making all CPOs non-transferable (and they're trying REALLY HARD) but as you can see by the comparison link, Porsche, BMW & the rest of the industry is not buying it, yet.

I'll step down off the soap box now...

well, I don't think we're "comparing apples to apples" here!

you use the term "CPO"....which I assume means "certified pre-owned"...

    what I am quoting here is an Audi Extended Warranty sold as part of (sort of) a new car purchase; I actually begged off the "hot box" approach and said I wanted to think over which coverage, etc., so I didn't sign on the Ext. Warr. for almost a month after delivery; the dealer's rep. made all kinds of veiled threats about increased costs, etc. if I "waited too long", and maybe this transferrability issue is part of it;

BUT, I am quite fluent in reading English, and I can assure you that my Audi Extended Warranty Contract, issued about 10/1/09, includes transferrability (under the minor conditions I mentioned previously). I'd even be happy to copy and (privately) email you a copy of my E.W. contract, if it would be helpful to you in negotiations with your dealer.

But it is certainly NOT true that Audi is not selling a transferrable E.W. any longer, since I just bought one!

PS: fyi, the contract is labelled "Audi Pure Protection", "Mechanical Failure Service Contract" , administered by "Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc."; the pertinent section (to this discussion) says:
"You may transfer this Contract to another owner, but not to another vehicle......This contract may not be transferred to any entity in the business of selling or leasing motor vehicles....." It goes on to set 3 conditions on transfer: you have to notify them within 30 days, you have to give written request to transfer and you have to pay $40. It's actually one of the easier E.W.'s I've seen as far as transfer conditions. And yes, I've found these things quite helpful in "competing" with dealers in selling my well cared for used cars. But seems like Audi's still selling 'em!

PPS: I went back and read the link you posted....that's a whole different deal; that's the warranty the dealer gives you on your certified "pre owned" Audi; I thought what we were talking about here was "extended" warranties for original purchasers to extend their coverage BEYOND the factory warranty; that's what I'm talking about here....maybe I'm "off topic"

On the subject of reselling your car: I've always found that there's a really nice little market niche for guys who are selling a car they've owned since new, with a full service history and some warranty left; if you're talking "competing" with dealer's "used car" sales, that position usually works pretty well; and that's the attraction, to me, of the Ext. Warr.; figure even if I don't get coverage out of it to offset the cost, it's worth a few bucks more on resale of the car; if you buy "CPO", I guess Audi figures you're already a "retread" and they're trying to shut down "tertiary" coverage. Not a very buyer friendly posture for them, but if they still sell "CPO" cars, I guess you can't argue with it.

    Re: Audi Extended Warranty

Yes, we're mixing warranties. The Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) and Extended Warranty refer to the same period of time - after the FACTORY WARRANTY expires (at 4 years/50,000 miles) up to 6 or 7 years/100,000 miles.

But it is certainly NOT true that Audi is not selling a transferable E.W. any longer, since I just bought one!
    EXTENDED WARRANTY

A Fidelity policy is a 3d party contract. Audi may be selling them but it is not an Audi warranty. Found this on Audi USA:

    http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/t...about_our.html

Does Audi offer an extended warranty?

Currently, Audi does not offer an extended warranty program. Warranty extensions are administered on an individual dealer basis. Your local Audi dealer can most effectively assist you in answering all of your questions.

I know they like to strong-arm you as you're signing papers (and all you want to do is GTF out of there and drive) but you could have found a policy yourself. I live in AZ and picked one up on my Prius from a dealer in Indiana selling at 1/2 the price local dealers were quoting (same Toyota policy, not a 3d party). I know it's an R8 but there's a LOT of wiggle room in warranty pricing.

The typical stipulation for purchasing an Extended Warranty - after the initial sale - is that the car's factory warranty must still be in effect, not expired. So, I'm not worried. If I still have the car, I'll buy one!

    CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED

Again, the Audi CPO warranty USED to be transferable but Audi Assured/CPOs as of 2006, are NOT transferable per Audi USA.

Of course, none of this is applicable to VeeTen in the UK, but worthy of note for US folks considering purchasing a pre-owned R8.

I wouldn't quibble with who's actually underwriting the warranty, since I'm quite sure Audi isn't in the insurance business, but FWIW, the contract face page is prominently labelled "Audi Pure Protection", and printed alongside is the tradmark Audi logo
("Audi" in that characteristic slightly Germanic font with the 4 rings printed over it).

The warranty contract my Audi dealer sold me is exactly the warranty, by name, description and coverage, that is promoted on the audius website under "Protection Plan." I would fail to see how this is any different from the MBZ or Volvo (both of which I'm recently familiar with) Extended Warranties both of which are branded, promoted on the corporate website and sold by their dealers. In the MBZ case, my local dealer was offering 2 different contracts, the "Mercedes" Ext. Warr. and another companies. I can just about guarantee you ANY Ext. Warr. is going to involve a "3rd party", because no US mfr. or distributor is going to fiddle with an insurance scheme.

So, anyway, I'll stick by my assertion that Audi IS SELLING a transferrable Extended Warranty to purchasers of their new cars. If there's any doubt in anyone's mind about that, check out the AudiUS web site:

    http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/f...rotection.html

That's the contract I bought 17 days ago, and it IS TRANSFERRABLE!

Yep, same Gold, Silver, Platinum plans on the Fidelity site, and they are transferable as well. These are commonly available plans, nothing special from Audi.
