    New R8 owner!

    Hi guys,
Well I finally decided to join you. I purchased a brand new R8 V10 today! I wanted a new car after I sold the F430 Spyder and I hate my M6. At first I was going to get a 458 and I'm on the list for a car for delivery in October but in the meantime I wanted something to drive around. Anyways, I got it in Phantom Black with Black Interior. I got the Enhanced Leather, Full Carbon Fiber Interior, Carbon Fiber Side Blades, Carbon Fiber Mirrors, Carbon Fiber door sills, Carbon Fiber Exterior including front lip and air diffuser, Alcantara Headliner and titanium wheels. Heh, it's going to be a screamer. I love the standard LED headlights and I thought it was interesting that a lot of the things that were standard were options on the V8 like the Carbon Fiber engine covers, the B&O Stereo, LED Headlights, Nav, backup camera and all the other stuff listed in Premium Package. All in, the new V10 really isn't that much more than a V8.
So, good to finally join you guys. I'm looking forward to talking to you about the car and I'll post pix as soon as the truck drops it off!

Congratz on getting it. Hope you really enjoy it. Which transmission did you go with? Where are you located? Edit your profile with that info, when you get a chance. There are several differences from US to other parts of the world. I am looking forward to some picts being posted. Sounds like your car is very much what I would have ordered, in looks.

Yep, if I were looking now, I would get the V10. But back in April when I got my car, all the dealers and other Audi sources said that the very earliest that the US would see the V10 was Jan of 2010. That was too long of a wait and I decided that the V8 was quick enough as it was and I am happy with it.

    Re: New R8 owner!

I'm in San Francisco. I got the manual. I've had the SMG transmission in my M6 for almost two years now and I can truly say. . . it's horrible. It's clunky and jerky and picks the wrong gear sometimes and it shifts about as fast as a one legged cow. I had a new Ferrari California for a week a few months ago and it was like night and day. You hit the paddle and "CRACK" (such a beautiful sound) and it's in gear before your fingers even think about leaving the paddle. With the SMG (and yes I've driven the EGear Gallardo, it felt virtually the same) it's "hit the paddle" then 1 one thousand 2, it's in gear. And that's at top sport setting. Don't even let me get started as to how much time it spends at the dealer for things wrong with it. It's gotten to the point where the service guy laughs everytime I walk in. Nice thing is he feels bad for me and gives me a nice car to drive every time. I've had the 325i (Fantastic manual transmission) the M3 (felt heavy but the dual clutch is SO much better than my poor SMG) the 135 (suprisingly quick believe it or not) and this SUV looking thing (X6 I think it was called). It actually might have to go back to the dealer (I just came from there 3 days ago!) because now the satellite presets keep deleting themselves whenever I turn the car off. I don't know I probably got a lemon or something. Anyways, thanks, I'll post truck pix too. I've already been reading this board a ton and almost went with the v8 and then aftermarket things like Stasis exhaust blah blah but I saw the new V10 on some auto show and was like Yoww! gotta have that. Plus I love this carbon fiber lip and carbon fiber diffuser. Really interesting looking.

Not to fuel that old manual vs. automatic debate again but.. I AGREE COMPLETELY! I haven't met a tiptronic/R Tronic I liked. I would have gone with a DSG, if it were available. Maybe some day...

Don't get me wrong, if I were solely a track hound or had the choice of which one to take before I got onto a track for the track only, I'd take the SMG/Rtronic/Egear whatever. But for a car you have to live with, I'll stick with the manual.
