Fifth Gear host Vicki Butler-Henderson has been forced into the pits, with TV bosses confirming the show has been axed.

shame, I much preferred fifth gear to top gear.

Never really liked fifth gear but it's a shame because a lot of people liked it...Unlike randombloke I prefer Top Gear

top gear put entertainment ahead of accuracy or integrity - which is fine if you just want to be entertained, but not so much if you actually want something informative. sadly, the self indulgence of the presenters has been on a spiral the past few series to the point where the car content is so small that if you fast forward the crap there's precious little left other than a lap with the stig and the title music.

the series before this last one of fifth gear was the closest to a decent car programme I've see on UK tv, but the last series had too much top gear aping "magazine" pieces.

I wonder if anyone will pick up the slack and actually make a car programme focused on people who like cars rather than trying to be all things to all people?

**** what a shame. Fifth Gear was a good alternative to Top Gear. TG appealed to much more people than the car-guys... it's an entertainment show that has a huge audience. Fifth Gear is where it's at if you want to actually learn about cars with professional/experienced race drivers doing the reviews.. not 3 blokes fooling around. I watch both shows though

i thought 5th gear was crap. all they did were stupid tests. not stupid, fun tests, but stupid real tests. tests that engineers do (see:boring)

I really liked the Gadget show that did a seg. on the R8s' gadgets!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRILLIANT.

What do you guys think of "SUPERCARS REVEALED" show? Maybe it is the best "telly for the masses" from the U.S. Car show programs are more intense and serious in the U.K. Quite different from what I am used to.

Fifth Gear was always a wannabee Top Gear to me. Won't be sad to see it go BUT would have been better if they had had a more unique format or at least got rid of a few presenters - Tom Ford and the tall one and Tiff for a start - and replaced with some more talented people (in TV terms)!

Agree with Garyhun, 5th Gear won't be missed. Top Gear isn't really a car show it's more like "Men Behaving Badly" and, ooh, we better drop a few car bits in. The interview with Michael Schumacher as the Stig means it will always be no. 1 for me, regardless of what they do next. I have 8 original and loads of replica's of Schuey's race helmets :-)
