    Motor/engine info

Where might I find detailed info on the 4.2 v8. Thinking about swapping the motor into something a little different.

Is it the same block as the RS4? What does the R8 version share with other versions in other cars? and alot more detailed info...

Strangest R8 comment so far. Loreson would probably swap more than just the engine!! Trans, computers, drivelines, wire looms, etc.etc. Sounds even more difficult than swapping another engine into the R8.(unless maybe the V10 engine).

woah woah woah, easy guys the v8 version, Thinking about swapping the motor, but it will be a forged piece and such so really I'm just looking for some specs. Really looking to see if the block and component could be sourced from other audi's like the RS4 which I understand to have the same but different motor.

84.5mm bore, 92.8mm stroke, 4163cc, 12.5 compression... Are you thinking of swapping the whole engine or rebuilding a stock block? It'd be alot of work to convert the rs4 engine , change oil system, fittings, headers etc nevermind having to synch it to the tranny and computr

Yea not going to swap a whole motor, definitely going to be a rebuild piece with forged internals since i'll be adding some boost. I also found that the oiling system differences you mentioned, wet v. dry sumps. Dry sump is actually no problem and I would prefer it to be that way. Most of the pieces arent a big deal as far as fittings and headers(i'll make my own from SS). The only things I do wonder about are the fueling needs and the accessories.

Arent the r8 v8's direct injection or am I wrong here? This would become an issue, with fuel as well computer.

Is the brake booster similar to those on some fords where the booster is driver hydraulically from the power steering pump? They(ford) call it hydrobooster.

Not looking for an exact replica or even the real thing, just want to use the same engine configuration with some upgrades for boost.

Both the R8 V8 and V10 are FSI engines so you are right on the direct injection. If I recall, most direct injection engines use funny shaped pistons, so you may end up having to have them custom made (and even then, will the manufacturer design the top properly to take into account the unique benefits of FSI?)

Sorry, can't help you on the brake boost question, that is one part of the car I'm not too familiar with.

The direct injection proposes a unique challenge, but i'm sure I can figure something out in the next couple years before I start gathering parts. Looks like direct injection may be all there is on new cars...
