    Rear Speakers in non-B&O cars

Has anyone installed aftermarket rear speakers in a car specced with the standard Audi audio system? Is there an amp output for the rear speakers (the fader goes quiet when set towards the rear)? I'd really like to just add speakers where there ought to be rear speakers (what a horrible base system in a $120K car). If anyone has experience with this, will I have to add an extra amp? I don't want an elaborate aftermarket audio installation, just rear speakers.

Try a small thin 4 speaker box behind the seats. An extra amp would be even better. I might even try this ,and I HAVE the B&O.

Re: Rear Speakers in non-B&O cars

There has been dozens of posts regarding the quality of the B&O against the standard Audi one. Frankly speaking, I have spent more an hour at Audi Brussels Center two weeks ago, testing the sound system in a R8 with B&O and another one without the B&O sound system: unless you really need high bass at max volume most of the time, the standard Audi sound system is very acceptable. I prefered to spend the 1,500€ in my Audi Exclusive leather interior... having said that, adding two rear speakers is an excellent idea to improve the quality to the next level. When you'll make your choice and install them, let me know what you've done... (I now need to wait March to get my car)...

I'm not concerned with the relative quality of the system other than the obvious missing functionality. I just wanna fill the empty holes where there should be speakers and be able to hear something when I adjust the fader towards the rear in the audio settings. The base system does sound fine but fader full to the rear should not be the equivalent of mute.

I had no idea you had empty space for speakers. This might be an advantage as you might be able to find some excellent speakers to mount.

I must start with having to say that I have not heard the regular non B&O system in the R8 so I can not say what is needed or not. However car sound systems in general, best thing to do is to update the door speakers to the best you can afford. my favorites are Dynaudio or for less money Boston or MB Quart. the rear speakers in most cars are just somewhat for fill they don't usually do a whole lot for sound quality.

Thumbs up Re: Rear Speakers in non-B&O cars

The B&O is barely acceptable...but considering the limited space/speaker enclosures it can be too loud for some...just barely loud enough for me. When the G.F. is happy she sings and with the sound of the engine in unison I'm all right. (but I HAVE been told "I 'aint right") \"/ There is plenty of room for an additional box of speakers. An amp can be hidden in many places. The secret is to get lots of additional LOWS in the mix. (for me)IMO .You could easily TWEET your eardrums to shreds. Some pounding bass is what I love. Good luck getting much more pounding bass than with the B&O. Fortunately there have been advancements in speaker technology that helps with the enclosure prob. It used to be that the Bass speaker size was limited by the cubic feet of the enclosure. Tweeeters can be pasted on anywhere.

Does anyone have the layout of the sound system in the R8. I have not seen it.
