Launch Control R Tronic

Hello. My name is Mark from Florida and finally got my dream car. Silver/ Matte black side blades R tronic. Love this call to death and still not comfortable with the power. its my first super car ever. (previous owner vw passat) haha.. Can anyone tell me exactly how to use the launch control. What do i bring the Rpm's to? Also is there any trick to bring it from 6th or 5th to third or 2nd gear faster then double tapping the paddles or shifter

I have not used launch control because I don't want to pay for a new transmission or clutch. The car has a memory and records how many times you use launch control.

Hello Mngolfer,

Your comment in regard to the recording on the number of times the launch control was used is of great interest to me. I'm in the midst of getting a used 2009 R8. I'm having Audi do a full diagnostic scan on the car. Could your tell me where the launch control recording is located within the diagnostic so that I'm able to see it for myself the diagnostics is being performed.

to use launch control as per the manual (r-tronic):

press esp once
press and hold brake pedal
engage a gear
press "sport" button
press accelerator all the way down until it reaches a constant rpm
release brake pedal to launch

I don't know how you find how many times launch control has been used. I was told this by the dealer mechanic.

Having never used launch control, this sort of begs the question -- if launch control results in stresses sufficient to cause damage to the clutch or transmission, why would Audi provide the feature and document it in the user's manual?

I don't recall seeing anything about using launch control voiding a warrantly, and the clutch and trasmission are certainly under warranty during the coverage period.

I met an R8 owner who has gone through THREE clutches. He was asked to deposit 6,500.00 in case it was his fault.They were covered under warranty...because he has a steep driveway, and weights a bit more than most of us. I partied so hard Fri. nite I am forgetting how to spell. "BIG TERRY" is very well connected with Audi so maybe this had something to do with "covered under warranty"? The skid marks were left by a SWEEET Pantera (who I was able to pass) Kinda' looks like my burn-out but is NOT. Launch controll should only be used in dragracing ,or to a first turn.
