I was in the same situation as you, not exactly the same but close.
The options was a used 2008 R8 or a 2004/5 Gallardo.
I'm not a lambourghini/ferrari type of guy. My favorite car over the last decade has been a NSX so the R8 fit me just right.
Good luck with your choice.
It's really a personal choice. I chose the R8 because it can be an everyday car that has a lot of style and performs pretty well. There are other cars that are quicker, but handling is spectacular on the R8. I see far fewer R8s than Lambos. I have some friends that love the looks and personality of the Lambos and they love their cars for the few times a month they take em out.
Take both out for a good test drive and see which suits you better. I'm not sure where you are, but if you want a real good test experience in an R8 look into the Audi Sportscar Experience.
it depends on what you intend on using it for.. for everyday driving definitely an R8, for weekends.. an R8![]()

You would have NO warranty with the '06-'07. The R 8 is the wisest choice.Sure the lambo looks a little meaner on the outside.MOST Lambo interiors are cave-man crude , compared to the R 8. I almost traded my R 8 FOR AN '06 Gallardo Spyder. Imagine me taking the Gallardo to the track tomorrow with no warranty. I would be playing Russian Roulet.![]()

Not sure how you can compare a hard top with a soft top! Even a Gallardo Coupe vs Spyder would be such a personal decision.
I was contemplating a G before getting the R8 (V8) and because I'm using the car every day in every way possible I chose the R8. If I was buying a weekend toy then that MIGHT change the decision, but it's a close call
Tough choice..You should buy them bothbut after having driven the Gallardo a few times the Lambo is definitely more of a occasion/weekend car.
That's because the R8 is more refined in lots of its aspects and that's why its a better daily driver.. but also a great track car as well
However you will seriously get more of a rush starting a Lambo in your garage than a R8.
Would never buy one without some manufacture warranty remaining
My next car will be a Lambo..just patiently waiting to see some spy shots or info on the new body shape Gallardo due soon.

Always R8.
I had a friend's Lambo on loan for a few months whilst waiting for my V10. Noisy, unrefined raw power, and your neighbours 5 streets away will hear when you come home at night !
And a tacky, basic interior. Also ended up with backache every time I drove it - no lumbar support.
No, I didn't like it..........
The Lambo needs to be driven hard all the time. The R8 V8 & V10 are just as happy driven in traffic as they are at the limit on the 'Ring.
Lambo will be VERY EXPENSIVE to service and for spares. Prices crash when the mileage racks up, as most owners don't do more than a few thousand miles a year. Whereas (in UK at least), used pricing for R8 V8 are holding quite well.
Test drive both, but not for half an hour. See if you can borrow them for a weekend so you get the full experience.
