Launch Control, we have a problem.

Has anyone dared to drop the clutch on their manual at 6500 rpm yet?

When I test drove the r-tronic last year launch control was recommended at 4500 rpm. Surely with the manual launch control you may as well book a date now with the IMF to fund clutch replacement

Bodhii, do you use the ESP sport setting (press the button once as for the launch control method and giving wheel slip dependent on road speed) or do you just bin the whole thing?

When you say manual launch control I take it you just mean a very aggressive clutch drop at high revs? No special switches?

    Answer is no..... tooo scared

Is your question relating to the manual V10 with programmed launch control like the rtronic or the V8 ?

At the top of my list of things that are pointless and of no benefit with cars:
    1. Launching
    2. Burn outs
    3. Aftermarket wheels

Yes its the programmed launch on the V10 manual. It recommends dropping the clutch at 6500rpm. Personally I wouldn't recommend it more than just the obligatory once of course!

On a low grip surface it sounds like fun, on a high grip surface it sounds like mechanical torture, if repeated often it 'must' result in endfloat in every drivetrain joint???

I can see #2 and maaaaybe #3 (since it's only looks), but for an enthusiast, launching is great when taking the car out for performance rides (track, drag, autocrossing). Aftermarket wheels can also offer weight-saving benefits on top of looks

Re: Launch Control, we have a problem.

I've done it. Not on my car but on another V10 at the Audi driving course. It works and it works very well. It's actually remarkably simple. Press one button, put it in first, engage the clutch, floor the gas. It stops at 6500 so you don't have to get cute with it. Then just lift the clutch. Obviously you would do half those things anyways. Only thing different is pressing the button and flooring the gas. There isn't any rubber burn or anything it just takes off like a bat out of hell. I agree that I fail to see much of the purpose of it other than a drag race or something but it seems to be the "in" thing to have on supercars these days.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the "programmed launch control like the rtrontic" is NOT JUST a feature of the "manual v10", but rather it is a feature of the manual transmission car, beginning with the 2010 model. 2010 v8s have the feature as well.

the book says: 1. esp off ("esp sport" shows in D.I.S.) 2. depress clutch 3. engage 1st gear 4. press accelerator "all the way down until the engine speed is steady @ 6500 rpm" 5. "release the clutch carefully"

the cautions warn not to "annoy" other drivers with your acceleration!

PS: "burn outs" DO have a purpose....IF you're drag racing....the reason they smoke all that expensive rubber right before launch is to get the tire surface warmed and at max grip....if you're worrying about 1/100s and your title's on the line, to hell with a little rubber!
